Front sway bar mounts.

Is there a alternative heavier duty mount available? I broke a stud removing one and can't find any replacements for the factory 27mm front bar.

I'm betting its a dealer only item. In which case I may just modify the broken stud for a through bolt.

What exactly are you asking about? Are you talking about the sway bar links breaking, the sway bar brackets breaking, or one of the bolts that hold the sway bar on breaking?

Sounds like he's talking about the one of the bolts that holds the actual sway bar itself on. Kind of hard to tell from the post though.

Breaking a stud doesn't make you replace the bar. The stud is part of the bracket (each bracket is held on by one nut on stud and one bolt) so you either need just a bolt or just the bracket, which is like a $10 part on-line. You can drill out the stud, but you will find it a PIA to tighten it but it can be done. Not worth it to save the $15 it will cost at the stealer, IMHO.

To my knowledge, there are no substitutes--but they only break when serviced, not in use.

Here is the right one on mine (verify if correct for your VIN):

I had this happen to me recently. I was replacing the sway bar to frame bushings, and the bolt rounded off. I just drilled it out and then went to ace hardware and got a similar grade 8 bolt and locknut to put down through the hole. Its holding up just fine and cost less than a dollar.

I'm sure it can be done and it will work just fine. I thought about it (I snapped the stud), but for $12 (dealer cost at the time), I decided to make it factory. No right or wrong, here.

Sorry for calling them mounts instead of brackets. But yes that's what broke off.

The 97 limited I bought to replace the totaled 96 SR5 had no bushing left inside the passenger bracket. The stud broke.

It's funny how the long rusty bolt came out with PB blaster and a torch. (And wire brush to get rust scale off).

I have the totaled 96 I can try and remove the brackets from.

Thanks all. It's a shame that sides sway bar link fell apart. The front links are / were greaseable. Now only one will be. I'm going to use a good link from the 96 also.
