I ordered a 20% precut film tint kit. Thought I would ask here before braving the install. Any tips for those who have done it?
Make sure the windows are really clean. I'm guessing it comes with the solution you need to apply it. Use it liberally.
I don't really think doing it yourself is worth the time and hassle.
first wet the windows with a water and baby shampoo mix then go over it with a razor blade to get any thing on the window off. leave the window rolled down a few inches. put the tint on a clean surface and peal back the clear film but leave a few inches at the bottom on. wet down with same mixture as window and make sure window is still wet. place tint on window starting at the top and line it all up leaving a small gap from the top of the window using a what i call a tint smoother or a soft bladed item the size of a credit card start to smooth out the tint and watch for bubbles and "fingers" once you reach the bottom roll up the window and peal off the rest of the film and wet it down and smooth it out. there could be very small water spots trapped in the film but most should dry up in the sun. do not roll windows down for at least 3 days and leave it out in the sun to dry. I am not a tint installer but have spent too many hours and seen it done 100s of times at the local shop where most of my friends worked in high school and some still do. i have done this several times but only on side windows never rears because of the "fingers" and shaping the tint to fit. if i left something out and someone is a tint instaler chime in. but that should get it done.
