Frontier719's Build Thread

Figured it was time to start a build thread. Working with a college student budget so most of my mods are modest...for now:surfer:

This thread is also to help keep track of maintenance in addition to mods.

Here she is right before I got the keys. Purchased in June 2014 with 195,000 miles.

Recovered the center console lid with a piece of a mexican blanket to fix the cracked vinyl. Nice mod for under $10.

Took off the runner boards, but noticed that road grime and snow got kicked up along the body that was previously protected by the runner boards. Sprayed some bed liner in the door jambs as a rust-preventative measure and to cover the scratches in the jambs from peoples' shoes.

Replacing the LEDs as they die. Did the gear shifter with a white LED from ebay. When replacing LEDs, make sure you look for super bright ones with multiple light sources in one LED. They throw more light in all directions as opposed to normal LEDs.

Got some pretty crazy quotes for custom seat covers and re-upholstery so I decided to take a swing at it myself.

Went to the junk yard and bought a seat from a 4runner to take apart and make a pattern. I hope to finish these up in the next couple days, but this is where I'm at now.

those seats look real nice. Dunno how you managed to do that, if I attempted that it would just be a disaster :D

Hope to see you around Colorado sometime. I make it down to springs every once in a while

I like the mid-console custom cover, and the rust inhibitor treatment with the bed lining coating. Good luck with the seating, that is important, its where you sit! You might want to consider some memory foam padding in your seat refinishing, that gets a lot of use, the denser the foam, 5lb/5.5/6/6.5lb. the better and longer lasting. (afaik) Thanks for the parts! GREAT custom dash work below too!

Did you finish the seats?

Here they are. I'd still like to find some OEM covers at some point, or swap out the seats with racing seats, but these ended up making the seats a heck of a lot more comfortable

Made a log book to consolidate and keep track of all my maintenance paperwork. Pro tip after doing all of this - if you want it to fit in your glove box, a normal 3-ring binder wont fit. :roadkill:

up next: picked up a fat lip bumper last night and painted it. currently drying but hopefully will get it installed tomorrow.

Does anyone know how the fog lights can wire in to a '98? are they wired in with the blinker light connections? I didnt see a separate connection
