Frozen Calipers Poll....Let's see the numbers

I thought it would be interesting to see some numbers about frozen calipers.

Never had an issue, But what do you expect for a 4runner that has only been owned in so cal.

Isn't this common in areas with salty roads

No issues at all and i'm in North Texas with 150,000 miles racked up on my 4runner!

I would be interested in knowing how many people have had no issues with their brakes and have over 70K miles. Hard to tell if the no problems crowd are all owners with newer runners. Also how many who have had no issues still live in an area that salts.

I had to replace my calipers at about 80K miles but the problem was ongoing for a while by that point.

No snow/salt, and I have 115,000. It usually wont happen if you do good maintenance. I replace the brake fluid every 2 years, and it actually improves braking for about 6 months (then it breaks in, pun intended).

This will be a good thread to keep track of for data. I suspect the majority of the issue is salt/de-icer material related. But being able to poll everyone will help give us more accurate picture of the issue. Good work!

Just hit 80k and absolutely no problems! I drive in snow 6 months of the year but salt/de-icer isnt a factor. In Tahoe we use sand dispersed from the Cal-Trans plow trucks. I love having no rust!! :cheers:

I agree. I wanted to have a category for that as well...but the max # of options is 10. Keep in mind, this is a board for 2004 4R's, so "newer" shouldn't be an issue as much.

Somehow I missed that this was 2004 only. Just so happens my runner is a 2004. So I voted correctly after seeing this in the 4th gen link. Amazing.

Just got my runner about 14 months ago and had to change both front calipers a few months ago. Here's a link to my pissed off post after I found out that both were frozen.

I assumed that this message board was for 2004 4Runners only as the link to get here is specific to 4th Generation 2004 4Runners. Either way, I wasn't able to add more than 10 options for the poll.

Just like J-Money, I have not had that issue. I lived in San Francisco for the first 3 years owning the T4R and now in LA. I have not taken it to the snow yet (Tahoe, Big Bear). I have owned it for the past 6 and a half years, 108k miles.

Plenty of snow and salt here - had the front right done for the second time just around 90k miles. First time was both fronts so I am just waiting for the front left to go.
