FRS USB chages doesn't see phone

I just installed my FRS stereo, the 2016 version. I made a USB cable out of the one that was cut out of the car with the stereo and a USB extension cable. My iPhone charges, but the stereo does not recognize it. Any ideas before I order an ebay cable?

I wired it red - red
black - black
white - purple
green - brown as I saw in the other threads
