Default FS: '94 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 Auto 1kz-te (Santa Cruz, CA)

I am putting up my 1kz-te Toyota Turbo Diesel for sale.

'94 4Runner SR5 with SSRG (Limited) interior 4x4. Automatic. 178,000 kilometers, roughly 110,000 miles. I bought this truck from Michael Hooper (Toyota diesel expert fromerly of Jarco, inc) about 3 years ago. Had it shipped here from Atlanta and have had it titled and tagged in CA as a Diesel since then. No DMV worries. Engine and drivetrain, wiring harness, dash, ecu are all from Hilux clip or half cut from Japan.

I will get current pics up soon, all i have right now are older ones that Michael took when he sold me the truck. Here is a link to the album of pics Michael took. Things I didn't include may look slightly different, i.e bumper dent but otherwise truck is pretty much the same.

Just had IP rebuilt, new timing belt and glow plugs and coolant flushed. ECU has been rebuilt in last year and a half also, newer batteries, thermostat, shocks, fuel filter. 31" BFG A/T's. Sunroof, 4.10 gear ratio, p/w, p/l, p/m, Ipod ready Alpine CD tuner. Limited slip, cruise control, 2 3/4" Fujitsu exhaust, receiver hitch, LHD

Minor quirks with truck:
*rear wiper fluid doesn't work, motor is fine just line or outlet is clogged and I never bothered to fix it
*A/C doesn't work. Never gets that hot here so hasn't really been an issue for me. Hasn't worked since I got it although Michael said it worked for him before he shipped it to me so perhaps it merely needs a charge and a new $.99 o ring somewhere
*power locks only work on drivers door
*minor ding in right rear fender and body by tailight (I replaced taillight assembly so its brand new too) - I backed in to a pole, dohh

Truck runs great and is ready to go, its an animal offorad (think low end torque) and very well behaved as an everyday commuter as well.
I will do my best to answer the technical questions you may have, but like I said I didn't do the swap I've just driven it for the last 3 years. Asking $14,000
Thanks

$3500 is what the truck is worth, $2000 to ship to the states. Still trying to figure out where the other $8.5k is coming from???

Actually it's because you are buying 2 trucks and the labor to tie them together. Diesels can not be imported/shipped to the US. But a half cut can. There was a company called JArco that specialized in buying them at auction in Tokyo, having them literally cut off behind the firewall, and shipping them to the US. Once here, you find a "donor vehicle" (preferably with good bones and a blown engine), and you do a complicated swap complete with a new wiring harness. Not to mention that the 1KZ-te is one badass diesel.

So this is a legal, registered diesel in CA. Definitely worth what he's asking.

(My project cost a lot more than that, but then it's a 3rd gen with a few extras. :) )

:) Just because it costed that much doesnt mean its worth that much, i saw the prices of the Japanese companies doing it. It's called the "front clip" and its really not too hard to do, and if buying from the right seller, you dont get charged an arm and a leg. And you can buy the engine straight up which is cheaper and easily to do. Again i will say, its not worth anywhere near $14k, you can't include labor costs in the price of the vehicle. One of the Reasons i didnt pull a 3.0TD front clip from Panama was because of the relatively poor mpg i heard the motor got, and i knew the value of my truck wouldnt have been effected too much. The 4BT is a badass diesel, and is more likely to end up under the hood of my truck.

Anyway, Good Luck with the sale.

I understand the concerns raised over the price, all good points raised but you are paying for a complete vehicle. Yea, you could go do it yourself, awesome, go for it. Not everybody is inclined or has the ability/resources to do that though.

So you are paying for a CA vehicle that doesn't need any work, is ready to go and wows the local Toyota dealer whenever they've seen it, like "really, where did that come from, that looks like a factory job, incredible!" So it is a lot of money, I agree, but you are getting a lot of truck that has had a lot of love put into it, doesn't need any wrenching and will kick butt wherever you take it. And did I mention it can run on Biodiesel too if you desire.

Thanks for spurring the conversation.

I understand everybody's point of view, but at the end of the day, it's his truck, he can ask whatever he wants for it, worth it or not... glws...

Price lowered on Diesel 4Runner!

I have deciede to lower the asking price on the 1kz-te 4Runner to $12,800. Lemme know if this is more likely to grab your attention. Send me a PM if interested

Thanks
Jordan

With fuel prices jumping through the roof again, I'd post what you are actually getting for highway and city MPG.

It should go like hotcakes then!

album created

I'm not sure how to add a link to it, but i just uploaded an album of the 4runner. MPG is between 18 - 22mpg. Not incredible but pretty good for this gen 4runner. things can be done to improve mpg also, intercooler, new rear springs etc
