Fuel Gauge problem fixed!

The starter on my 99 crapped out at 117k and after replacing it the fuel gauge stopped working. Admittedly I didn't disconnect the battery and arced the B+ cable pretty good.
Turns out I fried the sender.
It was also still rockin the original filter so I changed them out and it runs great again. Aside from a fair amount of corrosion all went well.
I used the new mounting location and now get over 16 gallons in when the light comes on as opposed to 14 before.
Hopefully that's the last time I have to touch the car for the next year.

"New mounting location?" Is that all that's required to fix the gauge accuracy? I thought the TSB said the entire gauge cluster had to be replaced and re-calibrated? If all I have to do is relocate the sending unit then I just found my weekend project! Any write-ups on this?
