If you want to clean and detail the engine while doing VCGs give yourself a full weekend. I left my valve covers soaking in purple solvent overnight. Swapping injectors while you have the plenum off is like 20 mins.

2" painters tape covers the open holes in the intake really well and felpro sells a 2-piece plenum gasket set for $7

I am tempted to buy a set of used OEM injectors off eBay and send them to Witchhunter for balancing and then just swap them in.

Guys, you can simply check the resistance on a injector and tell if it’s bad. Very simple and easy. I think the factory spec is 13.6 or something. Either way, OEM injector is expensive! But it’s best option.
 
Ive ruled out every other option. it has spark, compression....Even if the thing reads good on an ohm meter, it still may be clogged which I think is the case for me

Im not heading into this to do valve cover gaskets...I'm heading into this to do injectors and was going to do the valve covers while I do injectors. You have me doing it the other way around and frankly, I have the vcg but may not even touch them. Any advice for injectors? Does the plenum have to be split? Can I just roll the plenum out of the way like I do my mustang when changing the injectors? I dont care about the valve covers, as thats a seconday problem at this point. VCG arent getting rid of my engine miss

hey im the one that did #5....like i said 1,3 and 5 are on the passenger side..i was in a junk yard and pulled the driver side just to do it..really was easy...you will have to see if there is something bolted down to take it all out together, but worse comes to worse, undo top one, move to the side..address driver side. While the ones are in on driver side..clean and air out the wells..mine went in alot better clean out. You know you need to unbolt the fuel rail which isnt a big deal. I'd do all 3 while your there.
Did you go oem or ebay stuff..i bought all 6 on ebay for 65bucks...i got some flack over that but they work just fine. Good luck

I bought all 6. EBay. I cant afford 900 for all 6 injectors. I bought from a place ive bought injectors from before...62 or something like that for all 6. You should never change just one...or 3. They all have to flow within 10% of each other or it could throw your ecm all out of whack and not know what to do except throw codes youll never find an end to. And yes, im going to clean the sockets or holes the injectors go in...thats a given that everyone should know and do. My only real questions on this were if I have to split the plenum and another is if I can do it without taking the intake off all together

Bad news for me is after new coils, plugs, wires, 6 reman fiveOmotorsport injectors and 2 new O2 sensors, I'm still getting a misfire.

Thank you for your comment. I think there is only ONE bolt that is hidden on the plenum and Ive actually got aa wrench on it. I CAN get it off without spliting it, but I wont be able to retorque it. And the VCG set I got has ALL the components...grommets, rubber/metal washer thingies for the bolts...etc. I guess I'll try to tackle it next friday night and try to get it done by sunday. This Texas heat is brutal!!! Sorry youre still getting a misfire. Sucks trying to weed these problems out.
 
I certainly wouldn't mind these problems in March quite so much, but I think it's heat related so it wouldn't happen in March, maybe.

I took my time while I was doing it, maybe 8hrs total, so a long weekend should be plenty of time.

One more thing, if you're pulling injectors be sure to use new o-rings, also be sure to get the aluminum crush washers (gaskets) for the end of the fuel rails, 4 total, maybe 5 in case you drop one. I tried to re-use an old one and it wouldn't stop leaking...

Ok ALL! Im under my hood as we speak and Im replacing my injectors. I wanted to answer MY OWN question as to why we are separating or splitting the intake. THERE IS NO NEED TO DO SO. I EASILY got all the bolts out and saved a ton of time by not having to do so, as well as the money for the extra gasket and so on. IT IS NOT NECCISARY!!! I'll post pics when I transfer them to my pc. This goes out to the valve cover guys as well, being that EVERY VIDEO or WRITE-UP shows the intake being split. Thank you all and enjoy your weekend!!!
 
Stupid easy. Im 2.5 hours in, REALLY taking my time, and I already have the new injectors in and debating on buttoning it up or doing the valve cove gaskets. I swear, I need to start doing write ups or videos because This is so easy compared to all the write ups I've read and videos I've watched. And I'm FAR FROM a master mechanic.....LMAO
 
Got everything back together.Runs GREAT!!! I DID do the valve cover gaskets while I was in there and the extra cleaning is what added to the overall time. I did take my time and it took about 8 hours with a LOT of breaks and a 12 pack of beer. If ANY ONE decides to do this...its NOT bad at all and feel free to ask questions! I made a couple shortcuts that have been discussed on here and another thread....
 
good job my friend. I probably should have done the driver side..but didnt. my valve cover gaskets had been done..but..if not....that would be the way to go. You probably cleaned that area out better than a pro would have...I also took my time..the job appears kinda scary..but its not...
 
what's important is that you have a matched set of injectors, that all flow the same, and can meet your motors fuel needs. i have some 305cc Lexus injectors on my supercharged motor with a stock ECU; it runs beautifully.

after i went through some injector failures, i'll go out on a limb and say that a larger percentage of the surging/bad running issues on this forum will be injector related.



do you have a Part number for the ones you used?
 
I know lots of folks say to replace ALL of the injectors even if only one is bad. I don't necessarily buy into that. :snacker: I had one bad injector, replaced it with an OEM and carried on.

Yep, OEM is pricey (can't imagine buying 6 for no good reason), but I will not chance a rebuilt injector. If it is an electrical issue on the bad injector, that can't be rebuilt anyway.

Which spec injectors to use on a 3.4L '99 5VZ-FE?

I actually have two 4Runners that need this repair, a '99 and a '98, with 220k and 275k miles respectively. Same engine (5VZ-FE, 3.4L). '98 has a dead #2 injector and the '99 has an overall power loss, not terrible but calling for injector replacement soon. When I do these jobs I will replace all 6 injectors on both cars.

The Racers Edge has 4 choices of "Injector Dynamics" brand and the prices vary wildly. The CC/Min ratings and the Maximum Differential Fuel Pressure numbers differ also.

I know that having the same specs on all 6 injectors is the desired setup. I was going to get the FiveO parts, but when I saw the different ratings and extreme price differences Racers Edge offers it went above my pay grade, so thanks in advance for any insight into this matter. I have no experience with fuel injector specs, I just know how to replace them, LOL.

Any thoughts? How do the above ratings correlate to things like engine power, performance, and fuel consumption? Will the higher CC/Min injectors consume more fuel overall, or will they deliver a higher fuel flow only upon rapid acceleration? Then I started to wonder whether the lower rated CC/Min parts would provide a leaner mixture and a hotter burn. Or is that even the way it works???? And what are the "Bar" ratings? Please help! LMAO :cheers:

Lastly (and thank you for your patience!), does anyone know the factory spcs Toyota used during the production runs, or did that vary? I looked at a dozen Toyota parts suppliers and while they have different injectors listed for the same application, none of them have the specs listed like Racers Edge does.

Alright, here we go.

1. You are way overthinking this. Like WAAAAY overthinking this. All you need is the part number and replace the injectors. Your 98 and 99 use two different injectors:

1998: 23250-62030: Toyota 1995-98 T100, 1995-98 4-Runner, 1995-98 T100, Tacoma 3.4L V-6, Brand New Fuel Injectors

1999: 23250-62040: Denso Fuel Injectors, 1999-2002 Toyota 4Runner, 2000-2004 Tundra, 1999-2004 Tacoma 3.4L

2. Ignore all over those racer's edge injectors. Those are for extremely high performance engines, such as ones running on advanced fuels or putting out insane power. Stock injectors are about 240cc's. Even I only run 310cc's with my supercharged engine.

3. I've purchased from Five-0 motorsports, and they have good injectors for cheaper than new. You can hunt more for bargains if you are tight on money though.
 
I had a cylinder 3 misfire a couple weeks ago. Replaced the coil, it ran great for 2 days. Now it’s running terrible, hesitating when you press gas pedal when you first take off. Surging in park.
So we replaced the spark plugs, cables and coil 3 again. Still runs terrible. Can it be an injector?
