fuel injector replacement

Which spec injectors to use on a 3.4L '99 5VZ-FE?

I actually have two 4Runners that need this repair, a '99 and a '98, with 220k and 275k miles respectively. Same engine (5VZ-FE, 3.4L). '98 has a dead #2 injector and the '99 has an overall power loss, not terrible but calling for injector replacement soon. When I do these jobs I will replace all 6 injectors on both cars.

The Racers Edge has 4 choices of "Injector Dynamics" brand and the prices vary wildly. The CC/Min ratings and the Maximum Differential Fuel Pressure numbers differ also.

Toyota 4Runner 1998

Choice 1 $780:

Choice 2 $1350:

Choice 3 $1740:
SKU: ID1700.60.14.D.6

Choice 4 $1440:

Maximum Differential Fuel Pressure – 130.5 psi (9 Bar)
Fuel Compatibility – Compatible With All Known Fuels
Electrical Connector – US EV-6 *Adaptor top, Denso lowers*

Then I found these two choices (thanks to this forum) from FiveO Motorsports, reman Densos:

Denso Fuel Injectors, 1999-2002 Toyota 4Runner, 2000-2004 Tundra, 1999-2004 Tacoma 3.4L

Denso Fuel Injectors, 1999-2002 Toyota 4Runner, 2000-2004 Tundra, 1999-2004 Tacoma 3.4L

It looks like the FiveO selections are the same part, they use the same pic for both, but maybe the PSI specs are different?

I know that having the same specs on all 6 injectors is the desired setup. I was going to get the FiveO parts, but when I saw the different ratings and extreme price differences Racers Edge offers it went above my pay grade, so thanks in advance for any insight into this matter. I have no experience with fuel injector specs, I just know how to replace them, LOL.

Any thoughts? How do the above ratings correlate to things like engine power, performance, and fuel consumption? Will the higher CC/Min injectors consume more fuel overall, or will they deliver a higher fuel flow only upon rapid acceleration? Then I started to wonder whether the lower rated CC/Min parts would provide a leaner mixture and a hotter burn. Or is that even the way it works???? And what are the "Bar" ratings? Please help! LMAO

Lastly (and thank you for your patience!), does anyone know the factory spcs Toyota used during the production runs, or did that vary? I looked at a dozen Toyota parts suppliers and while they have different injectors listed for the same application, none of them have the specs listed like Racers Edge does.

:yo:

I think you should take a look at the video I posted and read the video description. Call the company I linked and they will get you a set of injectors for much much more of a affordable price than the crazy options you posted.

I replaced injectors 1 3 and 5 last week. I had been dreading this job for a long time but it really wasn't all that bad. I got the upper plenum off, cleaned it, and replaced the gasket, but I was feeling lazy and didn't remove the lower to get access to injectors 2 4 and 6. It's probably possible to replace 1 3 5 without evev removing the upper plenum - you definitely don't need to remove the fuel rod, I just kind of twisted it up and rocked the injectors out. Took maybe 4 hours start to finish with a lot of breaks and a detour to remove and replace a stripped screw on my maf sensor. Could definitely do the job in about two hours if I did it again.

I replaced all mine when injector 2 took a dump on me and ohmed st over 23 ohms at the internal coil.

I used OEM rebuilds from MotorWest and replaced all 6 that were flow matched. I replaced valve cover gaskets while in there and painted valve covers and degreased and pressure washed the manifolds and replaced vacuum lines.

Tim’s video made it a breeze.

FWIW I did the even injectors on my 99 v6 5 years ago w/ Beck Arnley's from Advance Auto. 5 years, and 60K miles later I have had no issues. Looking back I wish I had done them all, but it wasn't in the budget at the time. I needed to get the car up and running ASAP and those were the only ones in stock (tried dealership as well). Using a variety of 20% off online purchase coupons I got them at a decent price.

I still don't understand why the coupons are only good online. Can't tell you the number of times I've gone in for a part, had them pull it from the back, then gone online to purchase and use coupon, so they could hand it over to me.

This spring I had an issue with #6 injector on my 99 (228K miles). Ran fine most of the time, but if the engine got really warmed up, it would start intermittently missing, progressing to a fulltime miss and a #6 misfire code. When the engine cooled back down, it would run on all6 again with no signs of trouble.

So I got it nice and hot and missing, and tried to troubleshoot it by moving wires and coil packs around. And the miss stayed firm on #6. It was clearly not a mechanical (compression) issue because of the on-off way it operated. So... injector.

My mistake? Getting on eBay and buying a set of 'BRAND NEW GENUINE OEM 100% GENUINE INJECTORS' for about $250. Yes, there's absolutely no way you're going to get brand new 'real' OEM injectors for $250. Dumb me. Got them in, they were in some shady foil packets (I forget the wording on them, but it didn't inspire confidence. The injectors themselves? Really good fakes. I looked at the original injecors and those side by side up close, and I really couldn't see anything wrong with them. Other than a skinny looking set of red o-rings. So I put them in.

And...it was hard to start. Like 10 seconds of cranking. Hot and cold. Maybe a little better in a 'warm' start. Clearly, one or more of them was leaking down while sitting. Told the seller this, they said they needed to 'break in' and to drive it for 50 - 100 miles and see if it improved. I did that, if anything it got worse. Ah well, I took them out and returned them, at least the seller gave me a 100% refund (in exchange for not leaving feedback).

And I went to a junkyard and got a set of used injectors from a wrecked '00 4Runner. When I pulled them off the fuel rail, fuel sprayed out under pressure. Lol, no leaks on this set - they'd been holding pressure for at least a month or more. Stuck them in, it runs perfectly, cost only about $50 for the set. I figure a junkyard set with 200K on them are probably a better idea than a 'new' set of eBay knockoffs.

I had a cylinder 3 misfire a couple weeks ago. Replaced the coil, it ran great for 2 days. Now it’s running terrible, hesitating when you press gas pedal when you first take off. Surging in park.
So we replaced the spark plugs, cables and coil 3 again. Still runs terrible. Can it be an injector?

Hey have you tried cleaning the MAF sensor, as my 1999 was runing pretty bad, and had no power. so i cleaned the sensor and it is way better. also look at your pcv valve as that is the easiest fix.
