Fuel Latch/Cable

Went to fill up my 4Runner this morning and noticed the fuel cable was disconnected from the latch. I've searched on this forum but still can't figure out how to attach the cable to the latch. Any ideas? Thanks.

Mine has been like that for a while. Figured I'd look at it the next time I pull the lower dash and just haven't done so in a while.

I just pull the cable for now and it pops the fuel door just fine. I assume it either popped loose from the handle or something may have cracked. Maybe I'll take a look this weekend and write something up on how to fix.

If you get your head under the dash and look up at the gas release you can see where the end of the cable fits into the back of the lever. It just pops back in...take ya 10 minutes!

Just did this the other day, takes two seconds. Get under there and you should be able to figure it out in no time.

Anyone have a picture of what it should look like? I tried a couple of ways but can't get it to stay in place. Thanks.

same problem here. I'm crawling under the dash but cant seem to figure out how to get the metal "T" end to fit into the plastic latch handle. Appreciate any ideas.

There is a slot for the cable on the one side where the metal piece goes. You have to pull the cable up to that slot, slip the cable through the slot as the metal piece goes in and then let the cable relax and go down into the channel
