Fuel Tank Relocation (and new Rear Bumper design)

Put your upper straps in (pro-tip: put the nut on the threaded end in the front mounts BEFORE you snap the other end into the T-slots in the crossmember.)

Keith - do you have PN for upper straps? lower straps easy to find, uppers not so much. i'm finding uppers for side mount tanks, but not this one? Thx

What do you think for the baffle/sump? Shallow tanks begging for it...

I'm going to cut the bottom out of the Toyota one and center it around the Ford tank sump (I think)

Filler neck valve necessary if fuel cap sealed tight?

It's so easy, why not do it? - you could even possibly skip the welding and just drill teh pattern in the tank, sandwich it with the mount ring on the inside, filler neck on the outside...?

My apologies if I missed it earlier, but how far down from the sheet metal floor above does the tank or its support hang? Or, if easier, how much further down from the frame rails? Looks to be just a couple inches...

EDIT/ADD: If this photo above is with the tank in-place, that answers my question!

during all the clicking, i did find those at Bronco Graveyard and seemed the most likely.

You prob went through same routine... why oh why were these so difficult to confirm? I'd bet that Spectra or Dynawhoever has a PN for them, but just not obvious which ones.

Tony - that's the tank in-place, but keep in mind that without a 1" BL you'll need to clearance the body crossmember above it (there's plenty of material to clearance there) - however, it won't change the relation of the tank to the frame rails, it will sit as shown in either case.

I should know this answer by now since I have had my parts for this a while, but cyclocross racing takes over all my fall weekends.

With a 2" BL how hard would it be to tuck the tank up farther?

hmm.. - if you flattened the pinch welds on either end and ran totally flat lower straps, you could probably go up another inch with it? it's certainly worth considering in your situation.

May not be worth it looking at the pics. It doesn't look like there is that much hanging down past the frame rails.

well, there's also something to be said about keeping the weight of the fuel lower - if even by an inch!

No smog guy is going to check where your fuel tank is located. As long as it doesn't throw any OBD codes, it shouldn't be an issue. I bet you could even run dual tanks and it wouldn't throw codes with the right venting setup.

I don't think there is any reasonable way to make it truly legal though...

Yeah, I was thinking that as well. With it looking like a factory fuel tank and not something that screams fuel cell I’m sure it’s not to big a deal. Also connected to the factory filler location would make it less
Suspect too.
