Fuel vent hose issue

Hello everyone. As the title say I’m having some issues filling up. Ever since I did the frame swap it takes me about 15 minutes to fill up. And that’s not the most annoying part about this. The fuel always splashes all over the truck and me EVERY single time I fill up. I either have to pump gas at about 1gal./min. or spill fuel all over the place.


From what I gather this is something to do with the vent hose. I have no reason to believe that my vent hose is clogged though since when I was doing the frame swap I ended up buying a new hose that goes from the gas cap to the fuel tank.

I also read somewhere that it could be a charcoal canister problem. There’s times when I smell some pretty strong gas fumes. And now that I think about it, it’s usually when I’m low on gas[emoji848]. How do I go about checking the canister? I have zero knowledge in that area whatsoever. Any other things I should be looking at?

Could check out the FSM, might have some helpful testing info.

Thanks I’ll look into that. I’ve done all kinds of searches on the Tapatalk app and on google about this and didn’t see that thread. Again thanks!

Your problem is pretty common, I read about it on here quite a bit.

Try the Search on this site or use BrianSD's method: Alternate Search for T4R - 3rd Gen Section

The problem often stems from over filling tank (past the first click or two) yet may have other causes. In the overfilling scenario, fuel overflows into the charcoal cansister, sometimes causing some of those particles to float up into the hoses, clogging them enough to not vent air out as fuel attempts to enter the tank. Some folks have success by replacing all the hoses and others may replace the cansister or do what that what guy did, gut it out and use aquarium charcoal. Some say its the Fuel Tank Overfill Check valve that causes this problem. There may be other solutions so search for other posts. Luck.
