Fumoto Drain Valve Mod

Ohhhhhh, I thought you meant you didn't have the factory skid plate. No, the Fumoto does not stick out past the factory skid plate. I suppose a rock or something could get up in there and break it, but I'd think it would be pretty unlikely. I've never even thought about it until you mentioned it.

It was just a rubber plug in the skid plate that covers that access hole. The valve does not stick out past it. I can say with having it on for almost a year now and going through some gnarly offroading I am impressed with how it has performed and hasn't budged or dripped any oil. Also note i did get the extra lever lock piece that prevents it from moving at all, unless you remove the block off the lever(if that makes sense)

Wondering what you thought, I was like you excited, one thing I did realize is absolutely no clean up which is great, but man did it take forever to fully drain out.

I had read it takes awhile, but I did not expect it to take that long. I did it cold as well. I think I am going to try it warm this time and run a timer on it. I did enjoy it, and glad I bought one!

That's a skid plate? I thought that was a crossmember. Learned a new thing today. haha

Good to know that it doesn't stick past the skid :)

What rubber plug do you have? Sounds interesting.

Glad to know that you've done some crazy offroading without issues. I'll probably end up buyign the lever lock piece as well for the piece of mind :)

Oh the plug I have only ever seen on one other 4runner the reality is it falls out. I will see if I can find a part number but just useless part that 99.9% or 4runners have lost and do without.

Definitely buy the lever lock. Not that I think you'd ever need it, I haven't, but it's great for piece of mind.
 
I have a Fumoto valve on my 4Runner and just put one on my Crosstrek. Both have the lever-lock just for the extra added assurance, but I think that I'd have to be into some serious stuff to accidentally open the valve in either vehicle, but aluminum skids under the Crosstrek should make me feel better. By the way, the Crosstrek uses 0W-20 which comes out like pressurized ice-tea!! A Fumoto valve or similar is required on that vehicle in order to avoid "Exxon Valdez-ing" your garage!

I bought the Fumoto F103N and the threads don't seem to be the same on my oil pan. 2005 4runner v8

This shouldn't be this difficult...Any ideas?
 
Has anybody tried the F103SX? I've got the F103N, and I like it, but like idea of a lower profile.

I just got the 106SX (M14-1.5) for a different (not a 4Runner) car. I assume it is the same size as the 103SX (M12-1.25) for the 4Runner - just with 14mm diameter and 1.5 threading. It is configured as two pieces so that it can fit on an oil plan with a recessed oil drain plug. I don't have them side by side to compare, but since the 4Runner drain plug is not recessed, I think the "SX" version will end up sticking out the same, just angled to one side.
