Fumoto Oil Drain Valve

Hey guys now that I have decided to start changing my own oil I have been considering getting a Fumoto oil drain valve to make oil changes easier and less messy. Do any fellow 3rd gen owners have this? What are your experiences with it?

I don't have one on my 4Runner, but I've had one on my Supra for probably about 3 years now. Haven't had a single issue with it. I couldn't get the original drain plug to seal up without making it super tight because the pan had been dented by a tech tightening the plug too much before I owned the car. I put the Fumoto in so I would only have to make it super tight once and never take it out and I haven't had an issue with it. I've been thinking about getting one for the 4Runner too. As long as you have a skid plate on down there you shouldn't have to worry about it opening up while your out playing in the dirt or anything. There's nothing protecting it on the Supra and it sits a lot lower that any 4Runner and I haven't had an issue. It sits maybe an inch above the front sub frame on there.

I have one on every vehicle that I own. I love those things. I have never had one leak or so much as have a single problem. They make life so much easier. I recommend them to everyone if I ever have the opportunity to talk with him about it.

Have them on both of my Powerstrokes and have had them for 12 years on the newest one. No leaks whatsover on either one.

It's not going to change the mess from the oil filter, however.

+1 with the leaks developing over time.

The 4runner's oil drain bolt is one of the easiest I have ever dealt with. The oil filter is not great, but not bad. Try removing the filter on an Acura Vigor then get back to me.

The encased oil filter, as found on the 5th gen 4runner, is much more a PITA to change IMO.

Yeah, one on girlfriend's '14 forester, one on 4runner, and one on my Ram. The 4runner and ram both lack the hose barb, but I opted for that on the forester since it'll never see dirt. The ram was absolutely necessary since 10.5qts of oil wants to come out in a hurry.

No issues with any of them and no regrets on not getting the barbed versions. The only thing that could affect the stream from going in to a very small area is wind towards the end of the drain.

It does take longer to drain though so heat up the motor really well since there's little chance of getting burned by the oil now that you aren't yanking the bolt. I also have pulled mine out after letting it drain for 30 minutes to see how much oil it prevents from coming out. I should have used a more scientific method, but it was probably less than 1/4 cup letting it sit for another 20 minutes. I just hope that isn't the dirtiest sludge and shavings that get continuously trapped.

Honestly I've never enjoyed that tense second where you go from dry everything to oil explosion when the bolt comes out. Like a jack in the box.
