Were you able to "primitive camp" in Joshua Tree??!! That's one of my favorite places to go to but I thought it was all reserved camp grounds?

I would love a .gpx file of your trip if you don't mind sharing

the primitive camping was near the BLM overload for joshua tree. this was a last minute trip so didn't have time to make reservations. It is a beautiful place though, so i will make reservations for this time next year.

unfortunately i deleted the .gpx file. my iPad is only a 16GB so i delete the maps after each trip.

Thanks for the compliment, I decided to wait since I ordered a shrockworks bumper in February. I didn't want to hassle with trying to fit behind the grill for the install.

There was someone on here that installed a bar on their 2014 not too long ago. Came out good.

Good call, I don't miss anything about the FJ. It was always my opinion that the 4R was the adult version of the FJ.

Anyway you could take a head on shot to show how far out your slider stick out with the extra inch you added? It would be much appreciated. Did he charge you extra to add the inch on the supports?

I'll get a hoot up tomorrow. Bud didn't charge me extra for the extra inch, although it take a while to get them.

I ordered them early December and got them sometime in February. To be fair, it was the holidays and I think I bought it through a GB so they had a few orders to process.

Thanks a lot. Last request I swear.... How far out from the body do they stick out as measuring from the bottom of the door? I need a them to be able to be used as a step but not stick out to far from the body. It's so hard to make a decision base solely on pictures.

So it's been a while since i've updated the build page but the wheels keep on turning in the Mod department.

I got a great deal from CBI Offroad and [MENTION=62034]Keemonrunnin[/MENTION] for their new 5th Gen rear bumper with Swing out. it ended up not being specifically built for my year but worked out just fine in the end.


Once Installed, this was the first iteration of the bumper with RotoPax, and pizza cutter KM2. The plan was/is to run the vehicle without the swing out for daily driving purposes, which is working out quite well...with one exception, i'll get to that in a bit.


this is the temporary solution to sealing up the swing out post from the elements. [MENTION=62034]Keemonrunnin[/MENTION] and i have been discussing things to use and i think he will come up with a solution before i attempt to look around for one.


After seeing a build page on TacomaWorld (Mcgrimm's Mall Crawler) i had to make a camp shower out of a scepter water can for the wife...it makes things easier when the wife is happy :kiss:, so i decided to scrap the 4 gallon Rotopax for the CBI dual can carrier. the plan is to carry my modified water can with potable water and use it for all my camping uses, which will save room inside the rig too. the 5 gallon scepter not only looks cool, but also gives me an extra gallon of fuel over the rotopax. I purchased a good ol' 6' super siphon to refuel straight from swing out which will be great on my back.

You may be asking "won't carrying your water outside make it hot", and the answer is yes. So...i remedied that problem by buying one of these...:laugh:

aside from my wife liking the idea of having cold food without the mush, i have been using a few Nalgene bottles in the fridge to save space over too many water bottles. when the Nalgene's are out, i refill with water from the Scepter and chill them while i drink a cold one. maybe not too advanced, but i'm proud of it lol.
the 50QT fits perfect in the 4R and i used the tie down points i built in earlier along with the ARB tie down kit and it is solid and more importantly allows me to use the factory slide out tray.

With the anticipation of adding about 450pounds to the rear (130 for bumper, 55 for swing out, 80 for spare tire and wheel, 60ish in scepter fluids, 50 for ARB, and extra gear) i ditched my custom CSS coils with Icon 2" specs, and picked up some OME 2895's (250ish lbs).


Initially the 2895's were great because they gave me about 2.5" of lift over stock (without the swing out). unfortunately, after a recent Big Bear trip, it ended up dropping me about 1.5" with full gear. So i ended up picking up some 2896's (318lbs) from [MENTION=74569]SOcalTRAIL[/MENTION] and will be installing those this weekend. Hopefully they're enough...
