Gabex35's Build Thread

After seeing a build page on TacomaWorld (Mcgrimm's Mall Crawler) i had to make a camp shower out of a scepter water can for the wife...it makes things easier when the wife is happy , so i decided to scrap the 4 gallon Rotopax for the CBI dual can carrier. the plan is to carry my modified water can with potable water and use it for all my camping uses, which will save room inside the rig too. the 5 gallon scepter not only looks cool, but also gives me an extra gallon of fuel over the rotopax. I purchased a good ol' 6' super siphon to refuel straight from swing out which will be great on my back.

So are you running one 5gal can w/ water and one 5gal can w/ fuel? Where do you order the green fuel can from? The one I'm seeing on amazon for fuel is red and has terrible reviews for some reason --- I'm assuming because of that eco-spout system they likely have on it.

Yeah, running one water and one fuel. Scepter fuel cans are "illegal" in California but I found a guy in Florida that sells new ones in green and red and is willing to ship here. They're pretty expensive but are the best available. The scepter water cans can be purchased in many places. eBay is a good place to look.

Scepters are illegal.

I guess I'm not understanding what is illegal about them? Is it because the military uses similar ones or the material it's made out of? I saw on Scepters site they provide their product to the military...

I know people the are stationed at Pendleton and MCAS Miramar, my intentions were to get 2 gas cans and 2 water cans for use on my trips.

its one of those CARB things. No one is going knock on my door to take me to jail for having one but you aren't supposed to be able to buy them here or have them shipped in. I'm sure your buddies on Pendleton can get some or have some because the military is excluded from the restriction.

Expedition Portal occasionally has them for sale. i just saw a guy in Cali selling two fuel and two water ones in tan.

So I have a lot of photos to go through from my trip to the fj summit and Moab but wanted to put up a few of my favorites.

My love for Bim's truck had me blinded...i never noticed how great your build was. Love the pics. Makes me anxious to move back to the states.

Nice work on P Gulch, the pic (as always) doesn't do it justice.

Thanks man, it's my favorite trail there.

Thanks man!

Which trails did you do at the summit, and which ones are in your pics?

I did Black Bear, Poughkeepsie, and Imogene. I don't think I took many photos of black bear as I was trying not to die lol. The rest are mix of the other two trails and Moab.

Not sure if it's just me or you're just too popular, but none of your pics are showing up. Which is a shame, because I was hoping to learn how you installed your battery and compressor knowing that the 2014's are a little tight under the hood! Hoping to get both of those things done in the next few weeks myself...

its not just you. i had the photos linked to a few different forums and apparently was using too much Bandwidth? i deleted most of the other forum build threads so hopefully the photos will stay up for the entire month this month.

Thanks Gabe, truck looks amazing! Did you have a tray made or have to do any modifications to fit that battery in (other than the tweaks to the battery itself)? I think I'm going to get the ARB twin compressor and I don't see where I'd have space to get that in without having a bracket fabricated to put it in front of the passenger up against the firewall...but you've done exactly what I want for a battery.

Thanks man, I removed the battery tray as the battery i have is sealed and will not leak. The battery is more solid without the tray and it allows some extra threads on the tie down bar.

Finding a place for the dual would be tough for me as i have my SPOD in the space you are considering but the dual is the way to go for an onboard compressor. its fast, relatively quiet and runs surprisingly cool compared to my single.
