Gabex35's Build Thread

So I've been seriously considering having the rig go on a diet.

I'm thinking of ditching the CBI rear bumper with swing out. Selling the Gobi rack and ladder for an aluminum rack and ditching the VR10,000S.

I can totally agree with you Gabe. My dash tells me I'm getting a whole 13.8 miles per gallon these days.

Installed my new Mt. Shasta and RoadShower yesterday in anticipation of a Death Valley trip this weekend, left it up all night in a rain/wind storm. I'm pretty impressed with overall quality.
Also decided to upgrade rear coils to OME 897s for the added weight of the tent and shower.

Hey gave this is scooby from tundra talk.
Nice rig homie!!!!
Sorry we missed you in DV last weekend. We saw you on scottys castle rd I think. I tried calling out but then realized you didn't have a HAM radio.
After running with a few of the runners from T4R, the wife is now sold on getting a runner she her lease is up on her Camry in June. Been doing a lot of research on here and ran across your build. I love you rig man. It's pretty much what I had in mind for building a runner when we get one.
I'd love to meet up sometime to check out your runner if you would mind. I think we're in the same hood.

Any photos of how that road shower hooks up to the Gobi rack? Also where can I order the anti-dark kit?

Yeah, I was a little disappointed with the lack of info the day before and of from the leader but it turned out to be a good weekend of exploring.

Feel free to hit me up anytime to check out the rig. PM would be the best way to get a hold of me.

Diet

This is a great build and your rig looks awesome! I will be curious to see how you configure all of your gear (Scepters, Trasharoo) after removing the CBI swing-out bumper. I am just starting my build, but plan to run on the lighter side since it is also my DD.

My plan is to only armor a few areas. TRD front skid, C4Fab sliders and fuel tank skid. I am waiting for the 5th Gen Prinsu rack to be available for purchase to handle my roof loading.

Would be interested to hear what you have in mind.

If any of you are interested in any of these things, PM Me. With the CBI, I would need your stock rear bumper and the things that go with it (must be in mag grey).

I really need to post photos and updates on my rig, but a 1.5 year old keeps me super busy lol.

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this, for some reason I'm not getting any notifications.

I've decided to leave the truck alone after getting a tacoma for daily driving. so the weight of it is not really an issue anymore and it will be able to carry everything i want for my trips. I will be getting a re-gear done in the next few months and will call it good for build purposes.

if i had to do it all over again, i would opt for cutting weight were i can i.e. aluminum skids, front runner rack, and a behind the grill winch plate. the rear bumper is the heavies piece i have but also the most useful so i would definitely do a swing out again...although i wouldn't mind a less bulkier version (high clearance) of the actual bumper.

So i decided to order a FrontRunner slimline rack today to replace my Gobi.

the Gobi has been great and i have no issues with it other than it sitting a little too tall for garage use and with the anticipated move to 34" tires, the slimness of the FrontRunner rack.

Its not set in stone yet but i will probably be selling the rack with sunroof cutout/insert, Gobi awning mount, and a 40" RIGID industries e series light bar. I'll post an actual for sale thread once i get the rack off and cleaned up.

In the meantime, feel free to PM me about those items if you are interested. I'd like to keep it local.

Just out of curiousity would the 40" Rigid work with the Front Runner?

it appears that it might, frontrunner sells their own 40" dual row bar with a neat mounting bracket and cover so i think the likelihood that it fits is good.

I was just curious. Unfortunately the RTT setup I'm going with will interfere with the light system on my Bajarack, so I'm thinking about going with something that will allow me to hook up a light bar in the front of the rack.

Front Runner and the K9 racks are on my list since the Gobi would require mounting the RTT on top of the highest crossbar.

Interested to see how this will all look set up on your rig :thumb:

Could we get a photo from straight behind your truck with the tent closed and the Road Shower installed? I was thinking of getting one and would like to place it similar to how you have it, depending on how far it over hangs.

I just removed it this afternoon in preparation for this weekend so can't get the photo you want.
It does stick out quite a bit on each side (probably about 4-5")but didn't really have any other option.

This is the best I have right now.

Hope that works.

Any reason for the light covers?

I don't want people stealing them so I figured a little less bling will help hide them.

I've also heard that any aux light above the headlights needs to be covered (California thing). In my head, It was cheap insurance to keep cops off my back.
