Gas Cap Quick Question

Ok so I have a quick question. I'm getting emmision leak CEL codes (says very small leak) and I'm pretty sure the cause is my gas cap. When I unscrew the cap just 1/10th of a turn, I can immediately feel the seal break. Also there is no hissing sound like there used to be. I've tried tightening it past 5 clicks and all that but still nothing. I ordered a new one but I'm still curious. How far of a turn on your 4runner do you have to turn your gascap to break the seal and release the pressure?

I turn it pretty far to ensure a good seal. I was getting the check engine lights too when I first got it and it was due to a bad seal in the gas cap. I just went online and bought one for around $12 and had it shipped to me.
I put it on and reset the battery, haven't had an issue since.

I had the same problem. Just make sure you get one from the Dealership. The aftermarket ones tend to throw the same codes. Dealer one is only $22.

Tighten 3 clicks.

It should take some effort to break the seal. Mine pops after about 30* of rotation counterclockwise.

There is no effort what so ever to unscrew the cap. I can literally undo it with one finger so I'm gonna see how the new one works out.

The new gas cap will be like night vs. day. My old cap barely tightened up compared to the new one.
