Gas Gauge

Hey guys - my truck is a 2004 Limited V6 4x4 with just over 120k miles on it. I drove it basically empty last night and put some gas in it this morning before running some errands before coming across this problem.

I put in about 10 gallons of gas real quick and went to get in to start the truck and the gas gauge remained below the E with the gas light on. The "miles to go" meter thingie under the radio was stuck at "0." As I continued driving, the needle came up just under a 1/4 of a tank and the light went off. Computer still reading 0. That's where it stays.

Any one encountered something like this before? Only thing I'm thinking is the fuel pressure sensor might be going dead, but I figured it would last a lot longer than 120k. The truck has been sitting for about 3 months, but everything worked flawlessly the first fill up since I got it back. This was the second.

Any ideas?

Hmm alright...help me understand the needle issue then. Never has it taken long to rise nor has the light ever stayed on. Am I catching something before it completely stops working?

If it doesn't happen again I would't worry about it. You said yourself you drove it until it was basically empty which isn't the smartest thing in the world.

If it happens again then look into what could be causing it.

"Isn't the smartest thing in the world?" You mad? - lol. It drove it until the light came on...isn't that what it's for?

I put more than enough in it to turn the light off. I think I wouldn't have made a thread if I knew what was causing it. But I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the help. Cheer up man.

Mad? No lol why did you interpret it that way? You said you put in 10 gallons and it was barely at 1/4 full....you must have been on absolute fumes.

You on fumes when you pull up to the pump and your so out of gas your truck shuts off and you have to push it to the pump ;) (It wasn't fun for me)
