Gas Mileage for a 1991 4x4 V6???????

My 90 gets about 13 per gal around town with 33s on it hwy i get about 18 i dont ***** its my daily driver and it is what it is . little truck big tires gutless eng what more could a guy ask for out of his toy :hatsoff:

I get about 200-235 miles to the tankful, depending on use. Back and forth local use is at the lower end and higway driving would be at the upper end. Typically, I've calculated about 14-15 on a mixed cycle, but I drive it very conservatively.

well, since i seafoamed it, and got a replacement EGR valve setup i figure i am averaging about 16mpg mostly city, but that is up to 50mph or so then back down again. i also notice a difference running 100% gasoline - i don;t thing they like ethanol at all.

and of course, now we are in "winter fuel" which has less BTUS than "summer fuel" ... i hate ethanol.

I was just wondering since it sometimes goes up and down. So far I ahve about 180 on 3/4 tank. Hopefully I should get a little more so I can see how well the intake and resetting of the timing has done. Also I need to seafoam it. Was told it was a rebuilt motor when I got it but I have already had to change out a couple of gaskets since then so I am almost certain that is was a junkyard motor due to the fact the upper intake has NO OIL written on one of the runners. No big deal cause I love how it rides and the look of it.

My 90 3.0 5spd gets just over 400 km's / 250 per tank. I use it mainly to go back and forth to work not much stop and go driving.

I had a 89 3.0 auto before that would get less than 300 km's and what a dog that thing was.

At the risk of sounding like the dumb new guy here, I've got a quick question for the engine experts. Being a Ford guy myself, I stumbled across a forum a few years back that outlined what is called the Six Liter Tune-up (named after the guy who turned everyone on to this hot tip about seven years ago on the Full Size Bronco forum). Basically it's an inexpensive, cool trick for small block Fords (302's & 351's (5.0's and 5.8's)) that entails swapping out the stock MotoCraft coil for an MSD #8227 (about 49kv), installing quality 9mm plug wires ( I use Ford Motor Sports wires), a new MotoCraft dizzy cap and rotor (or Accel) and replacing the spark plugs with just the new & cheapy Autolite Copper 24's. The key to this whole mod though is that the plugs get gapped farther at .055", instead of the factory spec'd .042", and the base timing gets advanced from 10 btdc to about 13.5 btdc. And though not everyone does this, but I install vaccuum gauges on all my vehicles, and I fine tune the timing so I'm pulling 19" +- at idle). I'm not positive why or how all this kinky stuff works, but in our last three OBD1 Broncos we have seen our mileage go up a minimum of 15%, and more. In fact my '87 went from 13.5 on the freeway to 17.8 on a 300 mile test road trip from L.A. to the border and back. Also performance and 'punch' is much better. So my question is is has anyone here ever done something like this to a Toyo engine? Or is this just a weird Ford thing? (cuz I'm not even sure if the Chevy Boyz do this). Regardless, I'd be very interested to know your feelings on this set-up is.........

i'm getting roughly 17-18 on highway with slightly larger tires, intake and exhaust.. but around town about 14-15 depending on my driving habits.

according to my calculations the last time I filled up:
18.3 mpg mixed city/highway driving. This is not my daily driver so it is rare that I fill it up. This was after seafoaming & changing out all the fluids. (engine, trans, diffs, TC) Should have done a before calculation.
fwiw- 90 v6 5spd 4.56 gears with 33" tires.
I do drive like a gramps though :thumb3:

Well when did you get it? Are you up on maintenance? Oil and fluid changes.. plugs wires filters n such?

Right now I'm getting 11 1/2 mpg in the city in my 1988 3.0 manual. It sucks.

i have a 95 4x4 v-6 manual trans and i stay around 16-18 hwy its all stock but i do drive 75 plus mph on hwy everyday 120 miles to and from work. oh and it has 300k miles on it

That is absolutely horrible!! My 88 that was lifted with 35's still got 18mpg in the city and it was burning a TON of oil.

umm .. it's not horrible at all.16 city during spring and summer is about right
for a 1988 V6 engine with 32's.
