Gas Mileage

I feel like crap reading everyone's MPG. I average 15.2-15.6, as most of my driving is in town. On longer trips, I have been able to get up to 16.2. I got exactly the same in my FJ though.

but 1-2 gal reserve on a vehicle that get between 26-33 mpg compared to a 4runner that gets between 12-19 mpg with 3 gals?

the reserves on vehicles is dependent on mpg they get, so each vehicle usually have different reserves from what I have seen.

also that 3 gal reserve probably helps when your on the trails. all that sloshing around helps to keep the fuel pump primed easier.

It was the same on my FJ. 3-4 gallons in the tank when the low fuel light came on. I don't mind it especially now that my tank is 4 gallons bigger on the 4Runner!

I have an unmodified Trail... About an equal mix of city/highway driving in Massachusetts. I average 16.2 MPG, which seems about as good as one could expect.

One thing I'm noticing is the tire pressure on my stock 20 inch tires seems to be making a noticeable difference in MPG.

I was doing between 17 and 18mpg in the city and found I was lately edging towards 16. Winter gas was probably some of it but I checked my tires and they had gone from 32lbs to about 25lbs. Not enough to trip the TPMS but low none the less.

Airing them back up to 32lb and my instant is back to reading 17+.

Please stop propagating false information. Your oil change being due soon has absolutely no noticeable impact on your MPG. Cold temperature has. Thank you.

21.75 mpg on first tank; this is with great effort for efficiency ( 55 mph country roads with a little 4x4 play). 2015 trail with 3 miles on the clock. Don't really care about mpg's, just curious as to how it would compare to my 2000 runner with 240k miles. Nearly identical.

Looking at all this, I am going to have my tire pressures double checked tomorrow! They just put on new tires for me last week on tuesday at my dealership. I am still averaging about 14.5- 14.6 mpg but that is expected as I have read! The 4 runner is fantastic no questions asked!

Hypermilers pump up their tires to better their MPGs. You can always try that. Try increasing in 2psi increments over whats rated for the vehicle. Just remember not to go too high. The key is to keep it at a point where you are still comfortable with the ride quality (over bumps) and grip (the harder the tires the less the grip in slippery conditions).

Im no hypermiler, but I have pumped up my tires on various occasions before. Less rolling resistance= better efficiency. But hypermilers take it to an extreme. Stay within Id say 4psi over stock and see how that feels.
