Gas prices in so cal, Will BFG 265-70-17 All terrains Hurt my gas mileage

Title says it all, I have the tires on my jeep grand Cherokee now and I'm looking at purchasing a v6 4runner and 265s are pretty much the stock size but a hair taller right?

With the cost of gas here in San Diego soon to hit over $5 a gallon I'm leaning towards the V6 but want to make sure the v6 can handle the added weight of the BFG tires. I'm sure many have this combo on their rides.

if you are moving up in size yes prob my 1-2mpg, they weigh about 54lbs each, (info from tire rack) i was trying to do some research to see which would be a lighter AT alternative but its hard to find a good one that is a lot lighter and has very good wear

I am running the BFG MT in a 255-75-17 and my gas milage is down about 0.5mpg.

Thanks guys, that's exactly the info I was looking for, on my jeep I went from 235-65-17 and it was about 2mpg difference but they were a big change.

Ebg, did you notice any power difference? Is the v6 able to turn those over pretty good?

Yes, it turns them fine.

You will lose a small amount due to larger size, added weight, and more aggressive tread. I've been running that size BFG AT for a couple of years and depending on other factors you're looking at around 1 mpg.

Thanks gator, that's what I was thinking but just wanted to make sure. I love the BFG ATs and they get great wear, I won't run anything else. Already have the tires just need to by the vehicle!!! Haha

Yeah there is a noticeable decrease in power. The tire weigh 13# more and they are 1.7" taller. It is ok, but I may re-gear eventually.

i still have my original tire, michelin. i'm now at 82k miles and maybe it can reach me to 90k miles. it's rated to 90k miles though.
