Was wondering if anyone on the board has bought or tried out these gaskets before. Looking at resealing my motor and was wondering how these held up. It runs great now except for the oil leaks from the rear main and the caps behind the cams. Also got an exhaust leak. I can get a Felpro Complete set for around 150.99 bucks. originally 208.99. Also called one place that was trying to sell the brand Victor. Can get that for under 200. Lets here some input. Thanks

I'd say why not? I bought a complete engine rebuild kit off of ebay for my 3.0 and after a 1000 miles so far so good, not one single leak anywhere. The gaskets were all correct, they all fit perfectly and I was happy with the complete kit.

Are you pulling your motor to reseal it?

Most likely. The camshaft caps on the back are leaking oil and the rear main seal. Figure while I dont ahve anything else to do I might as well fix all the oil leaks and just go through and clean it up some. Plus I figure since I am not able to do the 3.4 swap right now I might as well keep this up. I found a 96 4runner complete except for damage on the front end for $600.

Good idea

Yeah, that is a good idea to pull it and do it right the first time.

Here is a picture of my recent engine install on my sons 4runner. I took the time to replace every seal, every gasket including both head gaskets , the oil pump, water pump, timing belt, cleaned everything, rebuilt the starter while the motor was out because we all know how hard it is to pull a starter, rebuilt the alternator and detailed everything in the engine compartment while the motor was out.

Check it out cause I think it looks better then the last picture of the original motor

Dang on that thing was clean when you put it back in. Did you polish all of the brackets. Dont really have much prob w/ it as of now but want to go ahead and do the head gaskets while its out as precationary maintenance. Timing belt and water is new. Prob 5k on them since it broke on my one day going to work back in the summer. Going to change all hoses also since I had one small coolnat line from the throttle body to intake bust last week. Right now it is rigged up w/ a pc of high temp fuel line that is looped around. lol

Didn't polish anything really, just degrease everything, painted the cylinder heads and even ported and polished the cylinder heads for more power.

Be sure to inspect the water pipe going under the lower intake for any internal rust or corrosion, if you see any spend the 67 bucks at the dealer for a new one, not worth getting a coolant leak within that pipe later on down the road.

Your oil pan is probably silicone on from the factory I'm guessing, mine had silicone but it was rebuilt already, it has two pieces, a windage tray plate and then the pan, i'd put your motor on an engine stand and pull the pan, you will be blown away at all the sludge that can build up in the pan. This is your perfect opportunity to clean everything, clean the pick up tube screen and more.
I went as far as replacing the oil pump as well since I had the pan off and it came with the rebuild kit I bought. Then I siliconed the pan and windage tray back on and threw the cork gasket in the trash that came with the rebuild kit.

If I were you I'd buy the complete engine rebuild kit with standard bearings and pistons, I didn't use the pistons nor the bearings but if I needed them at least I had them.

I inspected all my main and rod bearings and didn't find a scratch on any of them.

cool deal. that may be the route I go since I am going through all the trouble. Have to get back on ebay and find a complete kit. I am trying to do it in the next month or so but not for sure. Gotta see how the cash flow is first. Also gotta replace my upper and lower front control arm bushings. Already got them just gotta find the time to do it. Thanks

If you need any advice feel free to contact me via pm or this thread. I'll pm you my email address as well.

I just got mine running three weeks ago and it runs perfectly and it is all still fresh on my memory as to how to do everything so, don't take too long to start on it because my alzheimer's might kick in again. LOL
