Gasoline: 100% is best

Pages 645 thru 647 deal with fuel for vehicle.

I did not read any statement about not using 100% gasoline in our vehicles or about 100% gasoline causing any harm. Did I miss any prohibition about using 100% gasoline?

Page 646 goes on to give a "Non-recommendation of the use of blended gasoline" with the exception of gasoline containing maximum of 10% ethanol.

Sounds like 100% gasoline is best option and not on any non-recomendation list. If you can not find 100% gasoline then some ethanol is acceptable.

Page 646 rules out the use of E15. How can 5% more ethanol do any more harm than 10% which they aurthorize?

If they authorized a 15% mix for ethanol would you ask, "How can 5% more ethanol do any more harm than 15% which they authorize?" I suppose they have their reasons.

Yes I would ask that question.

I'm just looking for an actual answer no matter what it is or from whom it comes.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't actually designed to be OK with E20 and the manual is just being conservative.

The 2GR in the RX350 was E20 ready back in 2008. I'd be shocked if the 2010 1GR didn't get a fuel system that was equally capable.

This has been brought up previously. 100% gasoline is preferable. It will give better gas mileage than gasoline-ethanol mixtures. 10% ethanol in your gas mixture will degrade your mileage by about 10%. At least, that's what I gleaned from the previous post.

The ECU and/or mechanical components may not be able to properly adjust for more than 10% ethanol. Additionally, the higher in ethanol % you go, the more corrosive the fuel becomes to the fuel system components. In order to keep costs down, cheaper fuel system components are used that cannot reliably handle more than E10.

As such, I would suspect the Lexus can handle E20 because its ECU and mechanical systems are able to handle the adjustments, and/or the fuel system is rated to handle the more corrosive E20 mixture. Part of the premium paid for a Lexus I suppose...
