Gauging interest in UCA group buy

Uniballs are not as bad as everybody says. With proper maintenance they'll easily last in the Midwest. The funny thing is that a lot of people say they won't run uniballs in the Midwest, and then go install some heim joint control arms not thinking twice about it.

It's not hard to take you 4runner to a car wash, and have someone wash it for you. Then take 10 minutes of your time or less to apply some lube to your balls.

*I vote for AllPro. They copied Camburg's design in 2009, and are made with all the same parts. Same UCA, but less money. If this thread ends up going with LR UCA's Group Buy. I'll start a new Group Buy for all of you looking to go uniball, and it'll be from AllPro.

Heim's are similar to Uniballs, but not exactly the same.. Plus a heim has a zerk fitting so you can just shoot some heavy grease in there in prep for winter and you will be fine. And I don't know about you, but we don't have heated wash's round here. Most of them close for the coldest months....

Do Uniballs have zerks too? if they don't greasing them in out temps would be an issue as well.

Uniballs don't have zerks, and 9/10 heim joints don't either. FK heims don't have zerks, QA1's don't have zerks, Ruffstuff's don't have zerks, and those are the big three. You can get Ballistic rod ends that have them and pay $80. A silicone dry lube can used far below zero degree temps as well. Spray it on, cycle your suspension, and spray a little more.

Like I said, this is my opinion.
 
I really don't think all of the discussion on LR vs. uniball is worth the effort for this thread. No one has found anyone as yet that has offered a GB on LR arms, so If you're interested in the GB, you're not getting the LR arms. Fat Bob's has them cheaper than anything else.

Dan at wheelers said we can do a GB on Camburgs and he'll get back to me on pricing. The down side here is that it would only be for a specific part #, i.e. only 3rd gen runners and 1st gen tacos.

So I think at this point the deals we have with at least 15 guys are

1) Allpro - $425 + shipping (unless we get 24 guys then free shipping)

2) Built right - $500 + shipping

3) Total Chaos - $665 + shipping

4) Camburg - ?

Did I miss any?
 
I'm not interested in the group buy, but wanted to input my opinion on the All Pro's. I just bought a used set off a member and after 60k or so miles they still look great. The powdercoating is only missing in a few spots and the uniballs are still tight/in good condition. It was a SoCal truck, but still it didn't sound like he did a ton of maintenance on them.

In regards to the LR, I have personally seen a set break on a 4th gen. They snapped clear off and they weren't being pushed that hard when it happened. I have read great reviews for the All Pros and LR, but I see way too many bad reviews for the LR. It will literally take 5 min at the most each side to maintenance the uniballs. That's my 2 cents, which may not hold up to much, but figured I'd post up since I have personally seen both in person.

Metal Tech just did a group buy on LR UCA for the FJ Forum a few months ago. I ended up piggy-backing on their group buy and ordered a set of LR UCA for my 3rd gen from them. You might reach out to them and see if they would be interested in holding a GB for you.

Similiar experiance with my Camburg arms. Only squeek on the dry side of WA State when running dusty roads. But tossing a small bottle of lube in the truck fixes that (if I forget to do it at home). No winter salting here. Thought about LR, but no justification for them at this time.

Got them from Wheelers, very good customer service.

So I guess we need to figure out which one and then start taking orders.

My first choice would be Built Right's (I like the company) and then the Allpro's. The biggest benefit that I know of for the Allpro's is that other generations of 4runners, tacos, and FJ's could get in on it and beef up our numbers.

Im in for probably any of these, but would be leaning toward camburgs with that price!
 
I think the only down side to the camburg is that they all have to be the same part number, so no other gens of 4runner, tacos, or FJ's could get in on it so we would have to have 15 1st gen tacos and 3rd gen 4runners.

I dont see you having a problem getting the 15, especially if you share this over on TacomaWorld. Sheer number of Tacos over there will help you get yout quota. I would go Camburg all day at that price if i didnt already have Icons.

I have run my LR UCA's for a couple months now with about 1,000 miles of what I would consider hard use. (Fairly high speeds over rough, rocky terrain for hours and hours at a time. I imagine that's more difficult on them than crawling over rocks.)
