Hi everyone. About 12 months ago I was in desperate need of a bush vehicle. It had to be cheap, it had to be carburetted because I can make sense of it, and I wanted minimal electronic gear in it so I had a bare and reliable base to modify.

Completely new to 4wd ownership, I was dreaming of something with the basic mods already done. But with a minimal budget I held no hope.

The angels were looking out for me...

For only $800 she is claimed to have a 3 inch lift, a bullbar, one pair of decent rims and worn tyres, and a home made snorkel..

Carby was in horrible condition and I limped it home when i should have towed... lots of work ahead to get it where I'd like it, but I'm in love..

Minimal electronics and carburated, if you know how to tune it, is great. Less to break and resistant to EMP warfare :)


If someone could help with photo's that'd be great. Struggling with photobucket also lol...

Nope she's the old 3Y. I'm inspecting all components and will replace or recondition what needs doing/is feasible. I'll give the old donk a major service and do timing chain but nothing further than that. It's slow but still torquey enough for now. If she dies or simply can't push me along fast enough anymore, I'll bite the bullet and do a swap. Either the larger diesel they came with (the name escapes me), or convert to a V6 commodore engine. (V6 buick for the Americans playing at home) They are next to nothing, and a shop up north from me has a full conversion kit available.

I'm not a full blown 'prepper', but the state of the world is shifting constantly and this will also double as a reliable 'bug-out vehicle'

A diesel 1st gen for $800? Yes please.

Also, as a new 4wd owner, these types of vehicles are the BEST to learn on. Easy/cheap to repair, and super fun to drive off road.

... cheap to repair "stock". and then there's the rabbit hold of mods that get really pricey.
