wht size tire are u ruin 529s on stock tires your gonna run outta power quick 529s are great for daily driving if you running 35s or taller tires

4.88s are the preferred gearing with 33s--it would run similar to stock, and keep your speedo closer. Also, I would dump those lift blocks and get some proper springs--you're asking for trouble with those.

If you're an automatic, you might find you like 5.29's and 33's. If you're a manual, 4.88's will fall better in the "stock" range.

If you're on 4.10's now with 33's, wow, you're gonna notice a difference.

...Im running 33s wit 3in block and and torsion bars turned up some

OK, if you have torsion bars, you have IFS. So if you're buying solid axles, you must be planning a SAS?
That means later you'll have plenty of room for taller tires that will match the 5.29 gears even better.
So get them.

Just more food for thought, is the rear axle an 85 or earlier out of the same truck as the front? Because it will be about 3" narrower than the one in your IFS truck. Might consider just swapping the 3rds.

Depends on what size tires. If you're on stock size tires, you'll have tons of power, but you'll be crusing like 4000-4500rpm at freeway speeds.

I only installed 5:29 in the rear and will be adding it to the front. Is it safe to 4 wheel? or I should install the front gearing?

If you drive the truck in 4wd, make sure you have the same gears in the front and back or your transfer case will be very mad at you.

A big fat agreement with Hyde's post--808, your truck will NOT like you if you shift into 4WD with two different gear ratios. Basically, the truck will be trying to turn one axle faster than the other, and when the tires won't allow that to happen, the transfer case will say "bye-bye" and make a lot of expensive crunching noises.

I have a 95 V6 AUTO with 5:29 gearing in the back only, running 15x12 alcoas wrapped in 33x12.5 wrangler MT. I was going to put gearing in the back but gas in hawaii is exspensive to make this a daily driver..I was going to replace with 4:56?

What u think?

I need this truck to be a daily driver and with Hawaii's increasing gas prices..($4.30 87)..I was thinking to put 4:56 gearing?

what you guys think?

thanks..will it be less power compaired to 456..what is the stock gearing ratio?

You'd need to check your VIN to see what your truck came with stock. It depends on the tire size and whether or not you had the tow package, I believe.

Gear size has nothing to do with engine power, and everything to do with the balance of torque and horsepower you can put to the pavement. The higher your gear ratio, the more torque you'll have available at the tires, but the more RPM you'll be turning at a given speed. When you increase the size of your tires above stock, you are effectively lowering your final gear ratio, and need to compensate by running a higher ratio in your differentials. Years and years of people running 33s with your engine and transmission combo have come to the consensus that 5.29 gears are best for that tire size - 4.88s would give you slightly lower RPMs at speed, but would also make the truck feel sluggish off the line because of the loss of torque. 4.56s would likely bring the suck.
