Gen 5 Not for Me

Ok,maybe not a hate thread but this thread is a carbon copy of others and i guess it gets old with the same complaints over the 5th gen with the lack of V8 being the biggie but if Toyota was concerned with that affecting 5th gen sales strategies then they would've offered it but they aren't going to overproduce 5th gens so they will sell all that they make so it's hard to say if the lack of V8s are hurting it. If you look at 4th gens I think in the last year V8s 4Runners accounted for only 35% of sales.

It seems almost all the V8 owners are on this forum. :bigok:


But with any car forum these topics will always be a bit biased and see members more dedicated to certain cars but in most cases doesn't represent the majority of buyers and those sales is what car manufacturers see.

The 3rd gens losing the 5 speed and rear diff lock is a good example of what the 4Runner nuts want but not enough demand to justify Toyota keeping them but now they are a deal breaker for some searching for older 3rd gens.

Then Toyota will discontinue it just like they did in the 3rd gens but Toyota might have been trying to judge the market when gas prices were near $4/gal but still seems silly to offer a 4 banger in a 4800lb truck.

I'll bet a full tank of diesel on that. lol I really don't know why they did that I mean the 4 cylinder has to work so hard. I guess it's a sale aimed kinda car rather than a wanted kind. plus this engine is in the sr5 2wd. I would get the point if it was a turbo diesel like my PSD but I think the engine came out of the new rav4.

Not to be argumentative, but I really don't see this as being a hate thread. On the contrary in my case I waited several months for the vehicle to buy one, then some more months when it didn't come up at the normal new car introduction time.

I was stunned when it came out bigger AND heavier?? While the rest of the car world is shrinking or at least staying the same size with more efficient power, Toyota took an iconic model and turned it into a replica of the last generation Seqoia. This after just coming out with a new generation Sequoia that is only just a little smaller than your average yacht, and a new generation Tundra that could double for a tractor trailor.

Hate? No, but dissapointed, confused, and wondering why? Yes.

Oh, I did not mean this thread to be a hate-thread at all. I was just voicing my opinion of what I drive and what I saw. The 5 is a great vehicle I am sure. New (updated) styling, refined technology and a few new tricks are all there. I was just merely saying that I am not in love with the "new" package and will continue to drive and smile in my 07 Limited.

It is just like my 03 Corvette. I could afford a C6, but like the styling of the C5 better.........just me I guess.
