Gen 6 12.1 navigation update

Just got a post card from them about this, telling me to come in for an update. Also said at the bottom the entune would be avail Jan 2013.

I recieved notice as well for my 2011 4-runner. Personnaly, I think $162 is rediculus since you can buy a new mobile nav system for that price and it includes the latest hardware. This is only the beginning, since Entune models will have to pay a monthly fee after three years on 4Runners. All of this cost, and you have more capability on most smart phones with NAV with no update fees. I call the local toyota parts department who indicated the only have updates for maps, none for the obsolete software/firmware which is clearly behind the competition.

New nav unit?

Slightly off topic, but...

I don't think I'm going to drop $150 on a map upgrade. I'm also kind of disappointed with the nav unit. It's slow, clunky, and looks really outdated. It's OK, but toyota could have done much better.

So, I'm thinking of a nav unit replacement. I like the stock look and I'm not very mechanically inclined. I'd like to replace it with something that is more modern and would integrate perfectly with all the current features and controls (usb, steering wheel controls, existing xm antenna, backup camera, etc.)

Does this head unit exist? Does anyone have a picture of it installed?

Mike

got the gen 6 v 12.1 upgraded from 9.1 so looks pretty much the same, some road upgrades and many poi upgrades,,, haven't used it much yet tho

I picked it up a couple weeks ago, noticed a few updates just locally such as faster/quicker ways to get to places than the one that came with my '10. Will use it more in the summer months and see what changes come up then.
