Genesis Off Road Dual Battery System

I own two of their systems in my each of my 4Runners.

I've had the one in my '12 for about 14 months and '19 for 12 months and no issues at all. Easy to install. Is it expensive sure, but if you don't have a lot of time it's an option. I bought my first one at overland expo east and got a nice deal and second on sale with a small discount.

In my '19 TRD ORD i have the g-screen mounted in the upper console by sunroof controls. there was a spot for something in limited models which isn't used and it was a perfect fit.

Not sure why anyone would spend that kind of cash TBH.

Hey there. Quick question. Do you have to have the same type or size battery to use the isolator you linked to? Genesis says you need 2 of the same battery to use their system, but if I could use my OEM battery and just slot in another battery I have laying around then that would be WAY cheaper. Any thoughts?

I really don't like the old school solenoid relays. This from a component standpoint is a pretty "budget" setup.

Having done this many items myself... You can build a much better system for less money and with better components.

Just look at what Victron has to offer... I use them over both BlueSea and Redarc.

Honestly....until battery engineering takes a huge leap in technology (and price) I'm holding out for that....less weight, more power. I think we're getting closer daily.

I feel like we are already there now... at least if you dont mind a little DIY action... I switch to lithium and have no plans to ever go back to lead.

Everything is built from recycled 18650 batteries which were pretty much free. The circuit board an an open source project and is available to anyone.

Entire "dual battery" setup is plug and play and requires zero modification to the 4Runner. It charges when the trucks on using a Victron DC-DC converter from the rear outlets. Everything is monitored from a Bluetooth app on my iPhone.

Runs the fridge for about 2-3 days without any external charge from the truck.

You don't need identical batteries in terms of size, but you do need identical batteries in terms of type because of the charging requirements for each. For example, an AGM is going to need to charge at 14.1+V versus your stock battery that's happy at 13.1+V. Your charging system isn't going to be able to compensate and eventually you're going to nuke the AGM unless you're using a voltage booster, in which case you're going to over-volt your OEM battery.

I run a smaller YellowTop as a starter and a larger X2 as the aux battery with a voltage booster without problems. I didn't plan this for a specific reason, it happened because I had a y
