Getting a deal on a 2012 Trail?

Friends-

When I bought my current 4runner in 2002 I had two goals for how long I would keep it, either 200,000 miles or 10 years. Well it is 2012 and I have 205,000 miles on it. Time for an upgrade.

I did look at other vehicles and my wife weighed in "That vehicle has been perfect, almost no maintenance, 100% reliable, if you get anything other than a 4runner you are stupid (my word).

So I am getting ready. It is time.

Question: Does anyone know when or how often Toyota offers low cost financing? I got .9% last time. The dealer showed me all their deals. He said they rarely have them on 4runners, and don't sell many as a result. I would like to upgrade, but as is usual want to get a good price and a good financing deal.

You're not going to find much in the way of a deal on price. The TE is hard to find at all, let alone being able to negotiate on one. Financing is a different story, alot goes into it. Where you live, who you bank with, your credit rating etc. Personally, a local credit union has always given the best deal outside of the couple of 0% financing deals I've received before (other mfg)
 
pentagon federal credit union is currently offering 1.99% for a four year loan. That's the best I've seen.
 
If you live in the gulf states region TE's are custom order... Usually no dealership will negotiate much on one... that being said, I picked up mine on custom order for 36.5k before TT&L with no nav and it does have kdss
 
I've noticed that Toyota Finance has not had many low APR deals on the T4R lately either. USAA and Navy Federal CU are running a 1.79% auto loan campaign, so keep your options open. Don't wait on Toyota, expand your search.
 
We were offered 0% @ 36 months with our credit. They also have the 0% advertised on the Toyota site.

But like others have said, if you find a TE they usually are not willing to give any kind of great deal because of the demand and scarcity of the vehicle.

Did you get any other options with yours other than KDSS? Floor mats? Anything else?

the 36.5k is with the TE package and KDSS only. I have also added custom leather, Tint, and a 2 way viper/pager/remote start alarm system which has brought it well over 36.5k its about 39-39.5k now with everything... I just bought some Husky mats, and ATX Thug wheels which will go on once I pick up the TE after the leather is installed
 
I can tell you that grinning at the saleman is not the best way to get a great deal ... but I am still grinning so all good
 
Thanks everyone. And yes, I realize the TE's are scarce, but that appears to be the one for me. Can you rely on your local dealer to find one or have you had to contact numerous dealers?

In my case, I told the fleet manager at my local dealer that I wanted a 2012 TE with KDSS, and she found 2 in our region (one black and one silver). We agreed on a price and she did a trade with a dealer ~150 miles away. I had the TE (the silver one) in my hands the next day. So, for me it worked to let the local dealer find what I wanted.

In my area at least (N. Cal.) there still seem to be more 2011 TEs around than 2012s. So, a 2011 might be easier to find and you might get a better deal.

depends on your area. Ask your local dealer and talk to them. I had to order mine. it took 3 months to get built and shipped from japan

There is a black 2012 TE with KDSS and NAV sitting on the lot here in Marion ohio zip code 43302, at Mcdaniel Toyota they told me they hid it in the system to try to hold onto it for a while but I don't think it will sell all that fast around here.

Hey don't say that too loudly! That is the closest trail that I've found to me (I'm in NW Ohio...BG/Toledo area). I'm looking to probably buy a new 4Runner this summer sometime and I definitely want a trail, but I want shoreline blue. Since I haven't had a chance to test drive a trail yet, I'm counting on that Marion one sometime for a test drive, so I don't want them to sell it until I can get down there to give it a go! LOL
 
I specifically wanted a black TE without KDSS and without Nav when I was shopping around last year...I needed it ASAP since my car was beyond repair and didn't want to pay anymore for the rental I was using. There was none in my region and my local dealers said I either had to order one and wait a few weeks, or look for one out of the region. I was told dealers will only do exchanges with other dealers in the region. Luckily, my uncle is a salesman at one of my local Toyota dealers (I live in Va. Beach), and he was able to locate one in NY. He said I was better off just flying in to that dealer and driving it home than for them to try and do a dealer exchange which would've cost a ton more considering the distance between NY and VA. That's what I did.

Check out GaultToyota.com. That's where I purchased my '11 TE last year (non-KDSS, non-nav). It was advertised for $32,900, but I wanted the special coating which added another $1,000. Out the door I paid $35,000. Hope this helps.
 
For a deal I used USAA's car service price. That saved me a ton o headaches while negotiating. Perhaps you know someone that ha USAA? Unicorns are easier to find just about but man is a TE w/KDSS awesome.
 
If you can wait till mid-late summer you should be able to save a few grand.... in 2008 when gas went through the roof SUV's and trucks dropped like a rock. New and used car dealers were doing all they could to unload their inventory.

The same would be true if you're looking for a gas saver... buy before April.
