Getting FJ Shocks(Tokico) and Springs 2007 FJ

Hey Guys,

I am about to pick up some shocks and springs this weekend with only 25 miles on them for a sweet deal. I have read all the FJ swap threads and everything and want to ask if it is ok to just do the swap without adding spacers to the front. I want a slight rack but not as much as I have with the OEM setup. Can anyone chime in real quick with their experience with just the FJ swap without front spacers and if it is recommended. I have a 2005 SR5 V6 2WD. Thanks in advance.

That would be fine. You can probably expect about an inch of lift up front (maybe a little more being that you have a 2WD) and 1/2 - 3/4" out back... assuming that they are from a 4WD FJ. That would still leave you with about an inch of rake compared to the stock rake which is about 2-1/2". And you'll love the ride!

Thanks for the info Doozi! I just picked them up not too long ago from the guy selling on ebay and they are freaking brand new! He told me on the phone that when he got his 2007 FJC, he drove straight to the lift shop to put OME's on. So he said they have only 25 miles on them. I took a pic to show.

I have a 2005 Sport V8 and put the same year setup on my 4Runner you have just more miles on the FJ stuff. It works well and I got about the same measurements that Doozi gave you. You'll like the change. I did it mainly to replace the leaking XREAS I had but the lift I got is nice also.

I can't wait to get them installed and see what the improved ride will feel like. Thanks for your comment as well. Only thing now is trying to find a place that will put them on for a good price plus alignment. 4wheelparts wants to charge me $624 for everything. If I was not living in an apartment, I would do it myself as I am more than capable to do it, but just dont have the space.

I wasn't sure about doing it myself, but now I think I can do it after watching it being done. I don't know if you have "PepBoys" where you are at but that is who I had do mine. They removed my old XREAS system, disposed of all the old stuff and put on the FJ suspension then did an alignment on the truck. I shopped around and PB was the cheapest and I talked to the guy that was the maintenance supervisor and he said the guy that would be doing it was an avid offroader and was very capable of doing the job. I have been most happy with it, and I think out the door it cost me something like $324.00 with a warranty on the alignment and 90 day warranty on the suspension install. They would not warranty the parts since I was providing that for the install. I would have done it myself and spent the money on something else but that is the way it goes. The guy who sold them to me for $80 immediately put on some Donahoe Racing springs (I think... that's the box he gave me for the springs and shocks). I checked out Yelp to see what I could find nearby, and then Googled their shops to see if anyone might have had anything bad to say.

For example, I was really set on having my springs and shocks replaced at PT Plus Performance here in Long Beach for $160, but someone from a Bimmer forum had a horrible experience with them regarding wheels. The employees apparently don't care, so I took my business elsewhere. Luckily, I found a family friend to take care of it on a day off.

I think a good price is anywhere from $200-$300, possibly including your alignment. Good luck!

I would look at putting at least the 1/4"(1/2"net) toytec spacer with them. think you'll like the look better with a small spacer on the front.

Thanks. I am still looking around for best prices along with a good reputable repair shop. I am going to contact Greg's Japanese Auto tomorrow. They seem to have 5 stars with 32 reviews so I will see how much they will do the work for plus alignment. 4wheelparts is charging way too much. This job should be max $500 with an alignment if I already have the parts. 4WP wants to add another charge for doing rear springs. I thinking to myself, arent I having you do the back shocks as well. Why the added cost if you have to take it apart anyway unless there is anothre procedure I am missing, but I thought the springs just sit in there while the shocks and the rest of the rear keep the springs compressed.

Thanks for the advice! I will see what it looks like without it though as I have V6 and you have a V8. The weight difference in the motors would require that extra spacer on your front, but I may be able to get away without it. Also, mine is a 2wd as well.

He has tons of Mods and pics, but if you check out page 2, the linnk I sent, the pics on that page are of FJ's and 1/4 spacer. he also has v6 2wd. should give you a great idea of what to expect.

guess i will throw my .02 worth in on this. I did mine a while back and it costs me nothing but about 5 hours of my own time. this is not a hard swap to do. if you have some basic tools and know how then you should seriously look into just saving your cash and doing it your self. I also have the toytech 1/2 spacer on top of the front and airlift 1000 added in the rear. truck has about 1/2" rake to it, rides soooooo much better and for under 100 bucks in materials, did it myself.
either way, with or without spacer addition, you will notice the difference, just make sure you get the right spring on the correct side up front or you will sit all caddy whompus. one is a hair longer than the other, that one goes driver side....the shorter one goes pass. side. btw, mine is V6, 2WD also. gained almost 3" up front and about 1/2" in the back.

I have a V6 in mine and with the fj stuff and the 1/4"(1/2"net) spacer my boards are level but the body still has rake in it. If mine sat a 1/2" lower in the front I don't think it would look very good. Do yourself a faver and spend the 40.00 and get the toytec 1/4 top plate spacer now!

BTW I went back and forth when I did mine weather to put the spacer in or not and I'm sooo happy I did! If you don't do it now you WILL end up doing after you get it together. Just trying to save ya a step.
