Getting rid of the Double-Deck Stacker in the Cargo Area

Has anyone come up with an economical way to get rid of the stacking system in the cargo area, I do not use mine and I want to take it out to make a little more room for my 85lb Lab!

Do a search and you'll find a thread or two with instructions and pictures.

Once you remove it, you'll have a missing trim piece in the back. This trim piece is pretty expensive so be warned...

I have already removed it and now I am looking for any tips or tricks that DO NOT involve new side panels and the such... Just something to cover up the big gap it leaves in the floor... Any ideas?

I may just take ot down to my local car stereo shop and see what they can do. I will post my results if I have any

About 1-2"... the thickness of the deck itself, so cargo will now sit on the floor underneath the deck.

How about if you swapped parts with someone who does want the double decker and has the same color interior???
You may only have to purchase a few clips (for the few that WILL break on removal)

Yeah, and I'm next in line to trade mine off also.

BTW the cargo thingie and the piece that bridges the gap come off with two bolts, its that simple.

Jrunr, I think that even if you trade parts the capet is cut different with the DD cargo and you would need the cargo area carpet to completely finish the job. For this last reason is the one I have not switched it, too much money.

I don't see the cost-benefit of taking the double decker out of the back. You gain 1-2 inches, but the expense is way too high what with the replacement parts to cover the gap, new rear cargo mats, etc.

I have not had the chance to use the system. In fact, I have all my tools, tow straps, emergency kit, etc in a heavy duty box in the back that takes up about half of my storage space. So using the deck is impossible unless I go without all my emergency gear.

But I agree with the sentiments. With all the "in ground" features we are seeing in vehicles these days, you would think they could have come up with a way to make the double deck system fit flush with the floor.

It would be nice, but the solid rear axle and spare tire location make it difficult, I guess. Please don't complain too loudly, or Toyota may get rid of the solid rear axle on the next gen like many other SUVs have done.

We are talking about 1-2 inches here. I am sure the engineers could come up with some ingenious way of having it go flat into the floor without sacrificing any of the mechanicals below.

Hang the spare lower or use a skinnier wheel, almost like a temp donut.

IMO, it's really not that bad, but I can see where the beef is with the double decker when something won't fit because of the extra inch or two.

jrunr or toybox, no chance either of you still has your cargo double decker for your T4R is there? We don't have one and the wife would like to have it, so a swap would be ideal.

Took mine out and don't find any problem with the result. Definitely better than the extra layer.

I've got two 75lb dogs and usually have a blanket down anyway. Your dog must have stilts for legs for that 1-2 inches to make a diff.
