Girls can't drive, so I need a new bumper!

So, I parked in my normal parking spot this morning, like every morning. A girl who works with me whipped into the parking space next to mine, and smashed my back bumper =(. Moral is, most women can't drive goodly, and if they can, i have yet to meet any.

Anywho, I need a new bumper, and instead of immediately replacing it, I was wondering what experience you folks had with non-stock rear bumpers.

I know CBI sells a really nice looking one, what are the experiences that the forum has had with this one or other similar products.

That sucks, but if you can get a new bumper out if the deal its not so bad. One thing to consider is you'll need a suspension setup capable of supporting the additional weight. Don't know what your current setup is, but if its stock it won't handle it very well. That says, I really like the cbi, that'd probably be my choice.

Really? An rear aftermarket bumper is like what - 80lbs? I have 100lbs of subs in my trunk and my suspension is fine.

It may not be as big of a deal as I made it out to be. I've not tried it so I could be wrong. I know that's the case with front bumpers, I'd think rear would be the same. That's why all of the lift coils are not only taller but also stiffer, to handle the extra weight.

If you get the CBI, which you should, you will probably need to get stiffer rear coils. Your stock might be able to handle it but it could cause for a ruff ride and possibly unnecessary wear down the road IMO.

CBI's bumper by itself is 135lbs. But if you add the swing arm (70 lbs) along with all the other options and fuel you're looking in the 300+ lbs range.

4x4labs rear bumper is approx 250 lbs by itself without the weight of additional gas cans.

Also, if you have any additional weight in the trunk (sub box, recovery gear, rear drawer system, fridge, etc) you have to add that into the equation as well.

It's not a matter of just height, but control. The stock suspension was not designed to handle that much weight for extended periods of time. It may cause premature wear and would ride very rough as andyman32392 mentioned.

Men's egos cause more crashes. Drive faster and more recklessly, and when we crash.. we crash hard. This is why an adult male age 18-25 is the single most expensive car driver segment, with the possible exception of the extremely old.

Actuarial tables show it. Men, in particular, young men are the most expensive segment for car insurance companies to insure. That tells ya something...

As for your "study".. that's what we in the data analysis biz refer to as a bull**** study. The only way you get those "figures" is through self reporting. Self reporting is worse than no data, as we value "studies" in our culture, including wrong ones.

When we, jokingly (yet somewhat correctly) say that men are "worse" drivers for car insurance, that statement is based on objective data. Not subjective interpretation. Men may simply lie more, about whether they drive while texting. While crash, accident, speeding, etc. figures are objectively mined by insurance companies as they determine how to "price" specific demographics.


I can almost guarantee that if you and your fiance's driving records were exactly EQUAL, meaning the same everything in terms of tickets or lack there of, her policy would be cheaper than yours. This is exactly because, woman of the 20's and 30's range represent a much safer "risk" to insure.


I honestly have no idea who drives more "distracted" as how in gods earth do you objectively collect that data? You don't, and as a result it is hit with a pretty bad data bias.... meaning 0 reliability. Until they mandate that all cars have a little camera in them to monitor our driving behavior, I don't buy 1 word of a study that purports to "know" who drives less distracted... you can't actually, honestly, know that. I can, however, comb through states accident data that is submitted to the various agencies and released to public and see that X type drivers appear to have more accidents than Y type of driver based on hard numbers.

My insurance is actually much cheaper than hers with similar driving records. Being a firefighter for 5 years entitles me to some opinion on bad drivers and who crashes more in our area etc etc. As I may not have empirical hard data I do know who I have and haven't pulled out of horrifically damaged cars. Sorry if my response came off like I was being a d!ck, that wasn't my intention. Now let's enjoy one more pic for levity and enjoy the rest of our Thursday afternoons.

To address my original question. CBI looks amazing, and thats the option I'll probably go for, but are there any other options. I am in the process of buying a new suspension, so I will just end up getting stiffer back springs if I do bite and take the bumper. Does the tires still mount without the swing arm?

Also, I'm going to be completely honest. The first time I wrote this thread it was full of sexist slurs and jokes, which are generally quite well taken, especially among male audiences. Yet, I took them out because I didn't know how they would be taken. I should have left them in.

To address the people who are arguing about women being better/worse drivers than men.. i just wrote a paper on this exact subject, so I consider myself a buff on the subject =P. The truth is that men are in more car accidents than women, however men drive more than women. The percentage of male instigated crashes vs female crashes, taking into account how many millions of more miles men drive every year, shows that women tend to crash more than men. The crashes that men get into do tend to be more fatal however.

this is how my paper starts:Your heart stops, your mind races, and your hands clench, as the girl hurdles towards you. For a split second you think you can avoid her, but that hope is crushed as you feel the initial impact on your car. She is too fast for you.
