Glove box light bulb change....

There is a tab that you can use to disengage the cage cover, a locking latch. The issue that I had was trying to use my fingers to remove the bulb.........fingers are too big to grab the bulb and worse when I used latex gloves as I could barely get a tip to grip on to. Anywho, found a much easier solution for me. Remove the two screws at bottom of glove box and remove the entire glove box by sliding up and out. The bulb is in an actual 'cage' that is held in place by two tabs at either side of the cage hinge & locking tab. Pry out with a flat screwdriver and the entire cage will pop out and you can then disengage from the white wire harness that powers it from the back. My fingers would never get a grip on that bulb and I felt that if I used the pliers I was going to break it.

tip for opening cage

I did this the other night and ripped off that little plastic cover/cage. I have a real knack for breaking things as I go.

On my "98 the cage has a tab on the far side, opens very easy once you move the tab in the right direction.

Didn't know I had a glove box light until after I had owned the truck for a year, I pulled the glove box out to do the taco wip mod and went "Whats this round slotted grate thing?" The bulb was a nice charred black. Next time it burns out definitely going LED. Just about every light on my rig is LED say for the headlights and dash bulbs. Though I did find some nice high quality H4 fanless headsinked LED bulbs for my Goldwing that should fit in... Hrm... I like the pure white light though it's a bit more harsh than the warm incandescent glow. I'd change my dash lights but I'm rather fond of the pale moon green. Got a HU colour tuned to match perfect.

Glove Box Light

Handy little tip that I read somewhere else : to get that very small glove box light out.. with one finger stick a piece of scotch tape around it and then with the “tail” of the tape pull that baby out..works great..good luck

I opted for a red bulb in glove box, so when my GF opens it to grab something while night driving I don't go blind.

FYI you can undo the little clips and pull the whole bulb assembly out and unclip the harness and take it to your bench. Much easier than trying to do it all in your floorboard.

This is a great tip. I was going to have my 3 year old help me pull it out with her tiny little fingers, but may try this first.

This is exactly why I love this forum already, I didnt even know there was a glove box light since mine was burned out since the day I bought it. Now to figure out which bulb/color I want to replace it with (decisions, decisions).

Maybe I just got a bad batch, but I could never get good life out of those cheap eBay white T5 bulbs. They usually go out after a few months.

Change out glovebox light and notice there is no button around the glovebox that turns it off & on. Discovered it stays on all the time with all the other dash lights. Does anyone else stay on all the time too?

I'm also just finding this out. It's never been a problem in the *ahem* better half of a decade that I've owned the vehicle for... but I'm shocked that I've never noticed it regardless. Apparently the ash tray has a light too from what I'm reading?

Yes, it stays on when the parking/headlights are on.

I changed mine a couple of times with LED replacements, but they've all burned out within a few weeks, so I just stopped bothering with it. Same deal with the Ashtray light.

I was trying to find the replacement bulb for my ‘17 Limited. It does not have the cage noted above, but just appears to be an LED. How you remove it is not clear....but I found out it actually works when the headlights are on, but not on otherwise, so it did not require a replacement.

Update: four years and counting and the t5 led is still working. I may have rummaged through the glove box at night no more than a dozen times since 2015.
