Glove Box Removal

I have a problem, I need to get 2 wires in between the dash and the glove box. The black plastic piece and gray piece need to come apart. See photo's Follow link

I am going to try my best to recall what you need to do, since I don't have access to my truck right now ...

First of all, you need to take out the glove box. The only thing holding it in is:
1. One screw on the right side, which holds in the strut
2. Two plastic catches on either side of the glove box (all you need to do here is push them in a little so they don't catch)
3. Two snap in plastic hinches towards the back

Once you have this all out, you should be able to see below that black plastic tray thingy. Other than the 2 screws immediately visible when you open the glove box, there are 2 more screws underneath (be careful -- there is a lot of sharp, bare metal down there). After you get all 4 screws off, all that's left are a couple of plastic clips and you're done.

I hope this makes sense. It should be a little more clear once you start taking pieces apart :bash:

dice is right. Those steps are accurate. But once the glove box is removed, take a look around in there: if your wires are long enough, you might not need to tuck them into such a narrow opening where the edges look sharp. I moved my wires further to the right than yours, they go into the glovebox then out the back left side of it. The wires do get sandwiched in when the glovebox shuts, but they don't get chafed (sp?) or crushed by the glovebox closing, they are just in there snug.

PS> throw a couple of zipties on that wire bundle too. The more the merrier. Will make it look neat.

Actually you dont need to remove the glove box to access the screws. Just open the glove box and there are 4 screws, 2 that are visible along the top and 2 down lower. Take those 4 off and that upper portion of glove box will slide right out. I have taken that off to run wires just like you are and always just opened it to get access, you might need a flaqshlight to see the lower ones. Good luck.

:iagree: The first time I removed this area like Dice indicated but then I realized I could have taken it apart without messing with the glove box removal.

I tried that but it didn't budge. Your talking 2 screws in the top and 2 in the bottom right? I loosened them and it was still tight.

Something is holding this thing in I removed the 4 screws and it doesn't want to come out.

Any ideas

Hmm, it should come out. Maybe there are some plastic clips that are still holding it in place. I dont remember there being much resistance once the screws are out. Maybe try wiggling the plastic until it comes loose, if that doesnt do it, be forceful but careful not to break it.

We're you able to get the glove box off? Also, what year are you working on? Tried it myself but stopped myself 20mins in to avoid breaking anything and decided to seek some help/advice.

Something is holding this thing in I removed the 4 screws and it doesn't want to come out.

i had to pry my glovebox open and broke the plastic that locks it in place. anyone know the part#??
