Glovebox light?

Can anyone clear up the question I have: Do the 3rd generations have glovebox lights? My 97 doesn't that I could find but the repair book has some mention, so maybe 99-02? 01-02? If anyone has any info this is the post.

yes they do, and its a pain in the butt! i bought a bulb that looked right but was too big, so i jammed it in! and it works!

open your glovebox and it is on the top of the compartment under a plastic cover.

Thanks, found it under that black plastic grill. It is easy to get to it you pop off the whole glovebox, otherwise I could barely reach it. Again, thanks for the info.

I have a '98 and it's really easy to get to the light. Just open it up and look on the ceiling of the glovebox. From there just reach to the side and pull on it. It should pop out. This is the easiest light to change in the whole car in my opinion. Well the dome light might be the easiest, but it's not hard at all.

A latex glove? Are you serious? :lmao:

Just reach up there and get to the side and pull it out that way. If you need more help I guess you could use a screwdriver and pry it out. Make sure you start from the side though. I couldn't really get mine out pulling from the front.

Yup, dead serious. Tried several times with just my hand but it kept slipping, put the glove on, came right out on the first pull.

That's cool man. I would have never thought to do that.

If your replacing the light David try a LED. I would recommend a tri LED from autolumination. You need a #74.

Yeah, I got plenty of my led's from www.autolumination.com and www.v-leds.com as well. While your at it.. do an entire LED conversion! :bigok:

Thanks guys, I picked one up on my way home but will do the LED bulbs soon. Thanks for the sites. I want to make sure, One bulb for the glovebox, one for the ashtray, one for the A/C panel, one for the gear shift, one for the cigarette ring, and (One or Two?) for the gauge cluster. How about the map lights and dome lights (front and rear). Could someone list the bulb sizes for all these and confirm that these are the correct numbers of bulbs for all of us to use as reference. Thanks

just got my LED domes and wanted to replace the glove box light as well. well... i used the latex glove trick to get the old bulb out now i cant get the new one in.

Does anyone know if the flat side of the bulb is horizontal or verical when it goes in? my head is too big and i cant see anything in there. LOL j/k i used a mirror but cant figure it out for the life of me???

Off subject, but which LED lights did you opt for on the map lights? I'm considering swapping out my stock map lights for LED replacements, just not sure which ones to go with. I tried some a few years ago and was not pleased with the results, so I went back to stock.

Oh and is the light for the glove box still a #74 for '01-'02 4Runners or is it a #73? I need to replace mine too.

Oznium is the way :D, I have the same LED's in both dome lights and both map lights. Takes some coaxing and bending for the map lights, I had to completely cut out most of the interior of the dome lights.

Look great though. It's brighter than noon with both map lights on and the front domelight on. The rear is AMAZING for the cargo area. Wouldn't have it any other way. I chose warm white for that normal bulb glow.

Are those the small flexible leds?

I wonder if those would fit in the 96-98 map lights.

Sorry, when I said bending, I meant there's a small metal shield for reflecting the stock bulb. It easily bends out of the way and is just as easily bent back.

I do believe the 96-98 roof console is the same as the previous gen 4Runner, which would be too small. I think the map lights in the sunroof equipped 99+ models are smaller too.

Hey, you could always upgrade consoles if you want.

Thanks, that's not a bad idea. I'll def look into that.

For my dome light and cargo bay light, I've been running a 1 watt Luxeon Star bulb in each. Been very pleased with them. Purchased them some years ago from Taskled. As seen here:
