Just throwing this out there!

I don't want to rock the boat...but you can have a Honda ie2000 delivered to your door for less than a thousand...it's quiet, uses maybe a little over a gallon of gas the whole day, runs 120v and 12v, and is very dependable..and probably the same weight. (and if need be crank out a whole chit load more juice than a GZ)

plus, and this for you my little butternut, it'll run your blender for your Margaritas...

ok..buzzkill moment is over...go green baby!

This stuff is really nice. We used a little Nomad 7 panel with the Rock Out speaker last weekend camping and had tunes for three days straight, good stuff. My buddy brought a boulder 30 panel and one of the Extreme 350 packs with the little lights Goal Zero has for some late night poker games out in the mountains.

The Yeti would be cool but I priced out making my own battery pack + inverter with a big ole Odyssey and a 1500 Watt inverter and it came out quite a bit cheaper in comparison... just a thought for those interested in this kind of thing.

You can always make similar homebrew kits much cheaper than the Goal Zero. What Goal Zero gives you is a well-made package, a warranty, and a no-hassle setup. I'm curious, though: what was the price for your homebrew kit? Using a pure sine wave inverter?

Very true, I love Goal Zero stuff and own a bunch of it, I just thing the Yeti is a biiiit over overpriced for what it is (at least at MSRP...)

Without doing much research at all, my buddy and I came up with this:

1500W Sine Wave Inverter $379 - 1500 Watt Pure Sine Power Inverter 12 Volt by AIMS. With Free Remote.

Odyssey PC2150 Series (Same capacity as the Yeti, same batt. technology as the Yeti) $345 - Odyssey PC2150S Battery: BatteryMart.com

Total for the batt. and inverter comes to $724 not including shpping, sales tax etc. Add $100 for sone nice .25" aluminum to make a box, a nifty digital volt meter, a charge controller / regulator and some little odds n' ends to spruce it up and you could have yourself a nice little "Yeti Clone" for a bit over $800. I'll bet if you spent more than the 5 minutes that I spent you could find a cheaper 1250W or 1500W Sine Wave inverter for less than the $379 one I found.

Anywho. Just a thought. It would be an easy and fun little project.

This^

I love the GoalZero stuff, but in reality it is not enough power for most applications.

Us fat guys have to stick together...

and not because it's hot!....:lmao:

a few resources....

How to Calculate Wattage for Power Inverters

http://www.mdspower.com/inverters/battery_sizing_faq.pdf

and Don Rowe has some great info...Power Inverters - DonRowe.com

I guess I'm not looking to play down GZ stuff...it's looks to be well made, and nice fit for some guys for sure. I just believe for the price of it I think someone would benefit from a dual battery setup, and already have a $36,000 dollar piece of equipment in place to charge it. With the advent of affordable LED's ...you can light up anything you want with little to no draw on a group 31 battery. Many of us already have lots of 12v plugs that came with the truck, or we have added. I made several spotlight/flood lights with 25' cords with a 12v plug on the end, that I carry daily...and I'm always experimenting with new stuff as well. I'd gladly share any of those ideas with the collective at anytime...although he mods may feel it's not "4runner" related.

The Goal Zero stuff opens up options, and I hope those guys that do own it, get good service from the equipment.

Also an FYI to those who are military / LE / Fire / Rescue / Outdoor Instructors etc.

Promotive has Goal Zero on there, %50 discount. If you qualify as one of the people above, check it out. Tons of other discounts too!

SOcalTrail you be me to it. As I was reading this thread I remembered I saw goalZero come up on promotive recently and was going to share my Discounts thread (see sig). There are many Teams that the members here might qualify for. There is even a fishing team for Antman. Maybe that is for professional fishermen, check it out.

Me too, nothing against GZ or CostCo. In fact, I am crazy for CostCo. Shopping there is like shopping at REI as you can take anything back at any time.

Slightly :offtopic:
Thanks for the link, one of my coworkers told me about it a while ago and I forgot to pursue it (Active Duty CG). :offtopic: over.

Good to know the Costco tour (since their HQ is 10 min from the house), looks like I have to go to the further one than my regular one to check this stuff out in person. Thanks Antman and Ukie for the heads up and schedule.

FYI guys-

Goal Zero will be at the Costco......

Saw this thread just in time to run down and spend $400! It's a good thing I didn't see it at the beginning of the week or it would have cost me more.

It was pretty slim pickings by 5pm. Great pricing, but not much to choose from. :happens:
