Gobi Ladders

I orders mine February 14th. I called multiple times without an answer but didn’t have the time and kept forgetting to just hammer call them. Ladder finally showed up today. I’ve heard they make a decent product but there customer service and production operation is abysmal.

Gobi makes quality product, quality product takes time.

It amazes me after 10,000 pages of "slow gobi" people still expect gobi to ship immediately, they are constantly hammered with Whens muh order shipping that they can't address the real customer service issues.

So do a whole lot of other aftermarket companies. I don't care so much about the time. However, first, don't quote 4-6 weeks when you know it's more like 8-10. Second, customer service is very poor. Communication is one of the most important aspects of any business next to quality. Maybe they do get hammered with calls. Maybe they only have one person handling customer service. However, they would probably get much less inquiries if they did not miss quote deadlines.

I dont think anyone is expecting them to ship immediately, they just expect updates and timely responses/replies for products they bought. I DO think Gobi makes a quality product and understand they are extremely busy, but it shouldn't take weeks to get a response, if any at all. This issue has been on-going for years (I say with no exaggeration) and should have been addressed by them a long time ago. On top of that, they raised their prices. You would think they could hire more people or do whatever it takes to push their product out faster and/or improve their customer service at the very least.

Hatch Durability Over Time?

I'm wondering if anyone who has had the Gobi ladder for an extended period with regular use has ever taken it off to inspect the mounting areas?

Since it's basically just a clamp I'm a bit concerned about deformation of the hatch over time with regular use/loading. I'd expect some stretching or upward/outward bending at the top and slight denting at the bottom.

Anyone have any feedback? Thanks in advance!

To the guys without a roof tent: Do you guys with sliders/steps even use your ladder? I get it to the guys who are vertically challenged. I just don't see the point if you are 6' or taller with sliders/steps. Just curious as to the usefulness of it.

I’d like to know this also. I was even thinking of putting a strip of rubber padding in the bottom clamp so there’s no direct contact with the bottom of the hatch.

I've seen a couple posts where people have done this. Issue is that although this would protect the paint the force will just be transmitted right through the foam.

I don't run with a roof top tent. I'm 6'1". I use the ladder to my rack regularly. I used it this morning. It really makes the rack worth having and I use it all the time.

I know Gobi's roof racks have a max length of 88" and my rack is 90" with my last crossbar behind the shark fin on the roof. Does anyone else have a similar setup with a fully functional hatch+ladder setup and rack? If so, pics please? how's the clearance? thanks in advance.

I have a Gamiviti Rack with the Cross bar behind the Antenna. It still works for me.

He's been doing LC's for a while but only recently began doing 5th Gens. I found him on IH8MUD and the LC folks really liked his racks. I mounted it a couple of months ago and just returned from a trip in Canyonslands and Bears Ears where I pounded on the rack for 200mile of off road driving with over 200lbs of gear on top. It did awesome. I did chose to drill the front of the rack although you do not have to.
I had Rack and Road do it. I can later add Rhino Rails (they will mate perfect and work with any other rack) or just seal the holes up down the line if I ever choose. Also, I do have a light bar stealthy hidden behind the fairing. The fairing flips up to reveal the light bar. I have used it at night and the way the bar is mounted, no light reflects off the hood; it is deflected by the lower bar you see. Time was great to work with. Here are some pics.

looking for side ladder

Just got my new 2020 TRD Off Road. Anyone know of a good side ladder option that attaches like the Gobi or Baja ladders? Where it doesn't need to bolt to the big metal rear bumper replacement?
I need a ladder but it would be way more functional form to have it on the rear side.
Also, looking for a full length flat mesh roof rack, good ones??

I just googled it. The gobi ladder's weight capacity is 250 lbs.

I weigh 220 lbs. So, that means I cannot carry anything that weighs more than 30 lbs up that ladder. I realize that the ladder is probably over-engineered to some degree but still, you'd think they'd realize the mean weight of their male North American demographic is around 200 lbs. Plus a 25 lbs rim + 55 lbs tire, that's 280 lbs right there at a minimum.

Thoughts on exceeding the weight capacity? Anybody ever crush their ladder? lol

I wonder if the weight limit is on the ladder side or the hatch side. I could see some of the ladders on the market holding 300+ pounds but with the way it is attached, not sure i would trust the hatch to hold up to 300+ pounds.
