Gobi Light Bar Install Dilemma

Hi Everyone,

So I just received my Gobi rack and I requested for them to not include the two support bars in the front of the rack so that I could install my 40" Led bar but when I received the rack the supports were there and they gave me the adjustable bars on the rack instead. Must have been some miscommunication... Anyways I was looking for some mounting options. I got the universal mounts but those don't work because I would have to attach it to the bend part of the rack. I saw desert dawg make a custom L bracket but I was wondering if there were any other options out there as well.

No options that I am aware of, I didnt think you could even mount a 40" bar while the vertical supports were inplace without it looking funny (either way to high, below the rack or sticking out infront of the rack). If the misscommunication was on their end (you have proof of the way you requested it?) I would let Gobi now and ask that they make it right. If thats paying a local shop to cut the bars, weld, re powdercoat or if thats sending it back and starting over again I don't know. I like the adjustable bars so no comment on that but if you want it exactly the way your ordered (fixed bars, 40" LED ready) then I bet the only option is to have them make you a new one.

[MENTION=62757]chudiddy[/MENTION] where did you get the bracket to hold the light? I have a curved bar as well and I saw that [MENTION=107769]Desert Dawg[/MENTION] was able to fit one with his custom L brackets with the support bars. but im wondering if it would still fit with the cradle you have. I cant seem to find it anywhere and the only ones I see that are similar are made for jeeps.
 
When I ordered my Gobi Rack I told them what light bar I was installing and they sent me the rack all set up for it.
 
^^^ Definitely the way to go; unfortunately, I wasn't as smart as [MENTION=62757]chudiddy[/MENTION] to ask Gobi to custom fabricate the mounting brackets for my light bar so had to come up with my own solution after the fact. Even so, I was able to clear the front supports and still keep everything looking pretty clean.

So i heard back from gobi and they said they can have another rack made and shipped out next week and they will arrange everything shipping wise with the freight company :D

This is the same process I did when I received my CBI rear bumper. I had one that was going back to them due to wrong bumper. Another member wanted it so I contacted CBI. They made arrangements for the other member to pay them at a discount due to no shipping because he was picking it up from my house. If your close by to the OP and you want it with no wait time. I would either call gobi or have the OP contact gobi to set up a transaction for you. This will save shipping costs for gobi to have it sent back to them.

Gobi will arrange for someone to pick it up and ship it back at no cost. But now after staring at the rack for so long I really come to like the adjustable crossbars on top and having the ability to remove it for more storage options. I also have a curved bar and after mocking it up it seems to clear the support bars in the middle. Im trying to see if they can send me the light cradle that comes with the light bar ready racks like the one chudiddy has.
 
Here is what mine looks like.
At first I had cradles like [MENTION=62757]chudiddy[/MENTION] but the light bar was hitting the rack. I also didn't like that the other cradles only had one mounting location. It would take no time to just pry the light bar up to steal it.

If you contact Gobi, and give them your light bar Sku# they can send you the some ones.

*Wires through the windshield weather stripping and into the engine bay. Some have split the +/Ground and ran one up each side others have ran both under the weather stripping. I tried to run both under one side but was not able to get a good result. It was bulging and you could tell there was something under it/I was afraid the strip would fly off.

*Use wiring in your roof rack and then get into the cab via the hatch grommet or the shark fin antenna. Going through the shark fin I believe you look sat. radio and you will have to seal up that hole , going through the rear hatch grommet I thought was a better solution but comes with its own set of problems such as the wires are now sandwiched in-between the hatch and body when opening/closing you may end up with either a rubbed wire or rubbed paint (I am not concerned with this but its a possibility)

*Get a marine grade grommet/fitting and drill a hole in the roof and use that to run the wiring through.

All are fine options and I think it depends a lot on your personal preference and what else you may end up running. I was already planning on running rear lights so I was not heart broken about having to run the front LED bar wires through the rack and then back to the engine bay through the cab, only downside was it doubled the length of wire needed but I was running 12a so had little concern. The only suggestion I have is that if you are running wires through the cab from the engine bay pull extra ( I pulled 2) for any potential future needs.
 
Howdy,

I need some more advise on installation of lights on my GOBI rack.

1. I am planning on running my wires through the rear hatch boot. My questions is how do I get the wires from the latch boot to the engine compartment.

2. If I am supposed to drop the head liner in the rear, how do I do that. I do not have experience removing interior components and would like to not tear it up by learning how not to do it.

3. How do I get the dash lights into the knock outs? Do I just work from behind or do I need to take something off?

I would appreciate any advice.

My rig is coming together nice. I will post pictures once I get my light hooked up. This forum has really good information and you guys are always very helpful. Thanks in advance for advice.

Thanks for the compilation of several possible ways to run the wires. Def. info I can use.
 
I have a Gobi rack with rigid LED's front and rear, with wires routed through the shark fin. It was "professionally" installed. However, there's no way to remove it since there's no external connector in the wire harness. Keep this in mind during your installation...you will eventually need to remove the rack for cleaning, waxing, etc.
 
Still not sure how to get the wire from under hood back to rear hatch and get it through the latc
h grommet.

Still would appreciate some advice. I have a 2015 Trail Premium. I dont know that best way to run the wire from under hood to rear latch groomet. How do I run the wire? How do I remove the head liner and post liner.
