Gobi rust issues

Been reading of rust issues. Anyone have issues with rust or bad powder coat?
For the money - sure as heck shouldn't be ANY issues!

Here's a head up for GOBI - Spray or dip in a product like one of the many "bed liners" like Rino! We want a lifetime of functionality not just a "pretty mall crawler"!

The guy i got my front runner slimline II rack from previously had a gobi. Ran into rust issues and thats why he changed. From front runner, he went to the K9 due to the full rack without drilling needed.

anything that has expanded steel (the mesh) will eventually have some rust and need some maintenance. tight corners and welds are the tough spot for powder coating, and when you have that many of them its inevitable that you will start to have some rust issues. if you like the rack its not a deal breaker though, it just means that you have to watch it and do a little preventative maintenance when it starts.

I had a gobi for 3 years and it ended up leaking rust all over the rear of my rig. The rust comes from the inside and will eventaully leak out where they drill the holes to prewire the racks. If yours doesn't rust, it's coming.

That should be pretty easy to prevent, once people are aware of it. Just cover or seal any open holes in the frame.

I have had some minor rust issues. I live close to ocean (salty air) and one spot where i had the powder coat knocked off it started to rust. I emailed and called gobi and they mailed me some touch up paint. Took about 2-3 weeks but it was free and only needed to call once. Figured its a decent response.

I had rust leak all over my roof for the first 6 months. I just had to keep it clean and now no issues. I did notice they did a shitty job powder coating mine around the welds. I've had to touch up some spots with rustoleum.
