Gobi vs Bajarack shipping time?

Ordered Baja Rack Ladde June 13th - arrived today July 11th.

I was happy it arrived ahead of schedule as was quoted 5-6 weeks. Received updates and tracking from them during the process.

Product looks good

That is good news. Who did you order through? I spoke with the guy from trdparts4u this morning and he told me to expect 6-8 weeks?

Is there any benefit to not just ordering directly from the manufacturer? On my Toytec Suspension I went through a "resaler" instead of Toytec and it was just a crappy experience vs going directly through Toytec. Unless there's some kind of discount, not having a middle man seems to alleviate a lot of garbage.

I called Baja Rack direct and once my questions on timeline were clarified and agreed upon, 5-6 weeks was the expectation. They arrived a few days short of 4 weeks, so I was happy.

Agreed. The parts store discount is ~$14 which I typically would have written off for direct order and speed but my current issue is that I have left a few messages at Baja 1 888 538 0588 with no reply and zero human interaction.

On the second ring 4U picked up and the guys knew the part without looking it up like I was the third caller of the day or something, but he said the 6-8 week expected delivery timeline.
Teamoatmealpie thanks,I guess I will try again at business hours tomorrow to speak to a person then move forward.

Gobi = 4 month lead time

I don't know about Baja, but I'll never deal with Gobi or Trail Duty again.

First they quoted me 4-6 weeks, then 8-12 weeks. At the end of the 12 week deadline, having heard nothing i emailed Trail Duty. After no response for a couple days i called and was told the rack would ship by the end of the week. End of week came, no word, and so called again the following Monday. Was told again it'd ship by end of week. Did this song and dance three times. Finally fed up by the 15 week wait time and being strung along I was about cancel the order and demand my money back (they charged me two days after i made the order) but recieved a shipping confirmation that Saturday.

They say the shipping company will contact you to arrange delivery. Over a week passed with no contact. I called Trail Duty again, angry, rude and guns blazing (poor Phil, he sounds like a nice guy...) They had given the shipping company the wrong phone number. (My order conformation reflects my correct ph#, so they're the ones that screwed that up, too.)

All in all a few days over four months. Spend your money with a company that will respect it.

I've emailed Baja a few times and each time I heard back within 24-48 hours max (I think they were all within 24).. I haven't tried calling, just because they've been great via email.

aaaaaaaaaannnnndddd DONE!

Decided to try another call right now (loving that you west coasters are still on the clock!) but selected "customer service" prompt this time, caught a human [Sergio, last one in the shop tonight] who said it will be about 4 weeks, maybe sooner as they are working this very week on an entire batch of ladders and some may not be allotted yet.

Since my e-mail address has FD in it he asked if I was on a Fire Department... Y S I M! Boom, 5% off with a thanks for my service.

Details exchanged and I will probably get my ladder before my rack and truck now!

Thanks all!

I ordered a sunroof insert for my Gobi Stealth on April 19th through Trail Duty. Trail Duty didn't process my order until May 1st for some reason. I inquired about the order to Trail Duty this month three times and each time they said they'd contact Gobi and let me know. They also said they had some hard drive failure to explain the two week delay in processing the order. Each time I would get no update. They're just as bad at followup as Gobi (getting updates from Gobi for my rack last year was just a series of being lied to) but probably because Gobi doesn't get back to them either. Still waiting for the insert but no big deal. At least they're not Drabbits.

Update: Fedex delivered the sunroof insert today so about 10-12 weeks depending on when Gobi actually received the order.

Ordered mine through CVT (along with a tent) in late March, and CVT said Baja wasn't providing them updates. I took matters into my own hand and called Baja directly mid-May and had a good experience, they were able to look up the order and provided me a two week ship window. I then called and ordered brackets and a sunroof insert, they were straight and told me they were behind and it would be about 4 weeks. My rack arrived mid June, brackets and insert late June. I had good experience with Baja customer service plus it was a well packed and built product. Highly recommend but be prepared for long lead time because this is the hot season for racks and tents.

On a seperate note I found CVT a little flakey.

My experience with gobi. Ordered from trail duty with an estimated time frame of 12 weeks. After receiving my invoice, crickets for 12 weeks. Emailed trail duty for an update and they said they would contact gobi. After a week of no response, I asked again and finally found out they couldn't provide any time frame. In trail duty's defense, I think dealing with gobi is probably a royal pain in the ass and they just do the best they can. I finally received an email saying it had been shipped and the freight company would call to schedule delivery. That happened in another 3 weeks... total delivery time was about 20 weeks. Gobi makes a fantastic product from a quality standpoint. Their customer service is laughably bad, as many have mentioned on here. It baffles me from a business standpoint as to why they can't pre fab some of the parts to shorten the turn around. Equally baffling is how you can't hire some customer service reps when you charge the amount they do for a rack. And one last baffle, apparently they are still using horse and carriages for delivery.

Summary: great rack but expect close to double whatever they tell you for delivery time and do not expect to hear a single word from anyone in regards to status updates.

16 weeks and worth the wait!

Installed the beefed up lift gate struts as well. Rigid RDS on order.

Going on 13 weeks with Gobi order now... Initially customer service was right on placing the order directly with them. THEN, nothing for months, and no response to 3 emails, two voice mails, and a Facebook message. It's truly pathetic to make such a great product, but have such terrible customer service. I'm a business owner and am genuinely temped to start an off road accessory company with QUALITY AND SERVICE lol. Grrrrr...

I am also going on 13 weeks with Gobi. Have a pretty major trip planned in under 4 weeks and will be pretty pissed if they delay too much. I wouldn't have ordered if they told me 10-18 weeks.

Waited more than six months for my rack, part of a group buy.Made several emails after four months, asking for status both to Gobi and Trail Duty to no avail.Got a response only when it was ready to ship then waited another month when it was actually shipped.:crybaby:Was it worth waiting for, i think so.The truck is sexy as hell and it get even more stares!

I've seen hospitals built in less time

Even if they were half price I wouldn't put up with that bullshit.
I can't believe they're as popular as they are.

I agree with everything being said. For the price point, I would expect much better customer service and at the very least disclosing more accurate delivery times. I just ordered my rack at the beginning of this month. I have researched all options and this one was the right one for me. Plus its really, really, good looking! I ordered the rack full knowing it could be 8 weeks, 3 months, even 5 months before I get it, but that was a decision I made knowingly before the purchase. If you don't want to wait or can't wait, go with another option. No one on this forum should be caught by surprise at this point.

I think full disclosure is the key. I ordered directly from Gobi. They actually have someone call you to get your card info. It's at that point, they should tell you:
A. We won't respond to status inquiries, period.
B. It will take at least 12 weeks, it MAY take as long as 5 months to actually be at your door.

At that point, I probably would have still ordered it...but that way I could plan on how to carry gear all summer while waiting. Clearly, I've accepted...it'll get here, when it gets here.
