Tire fitment spreadsheet on this forum specifically states tire sizes listed in red will require extensive modification such as trimming and / or a LIFT.

Absolutely correct. Some will rub with a stock sized 265 AT tire, solemnly go 275 and don’t rub at all. They’re all a little different. I stuffed 295s under mine at one point with a 1.5” lift, no BMC, no rubbing. According to that chart, that’s impossible though.

265/70/17 (stock) Toyo AT3s

I'm switching from 20" stock wheels to 17" and like the slightly wider stance of those wheels, but don't want anything to rub.

It seems like the backspacing is almost exactly the same (~4.5in), but the tire sticks about 1.5 inches out.

I've seen a lot of conflicting data on whether stock tires will rub on 8.5 inch wheels...

Hi all, just got a black 2019 TRD Off Road preimium. I am NOT a techie ! So forgive my noobiness,

I want to give the new ride a more aggressive look, with a little higher lift without adding spacers. I see the tire fit graphic but let me ask so I am clear and do not have unrealistic expectations and go in the right direction:

Will 275/70/17 tires fit without any issues, will they give that look I am seeking and do any of you have preferred brands that you really have liked that give the look and maintain solid on road performance ? ( my off road is limited to dirt road hauling my kayaks )

Without actually looking at the specs from a manufacturer for a specific tire, the size tire you are referencing is about a half an inch taller than the stock tires on a 4Runner. It would be a pretty good bet they would fit without any problem. As for the look that is subjective, and I cannot answer that question for you. I personally think you are not going to be able to tell all that much difference between those tires and stock.

I have a 2017 SR5 Premium with TRD wheels, and put 275/70/17 Falkens on them with only a slight rub in reverse at full lock, which was resolved with a fender liner mod (really easy).

My guess is you will be fine, and at worst should need a small fender liner modification. I would suggest putting your wheels at full lock in each direction and slowly reverse while a friend looks at your tires (and takes pics?) as you move to see how much clearance you have. Should be pretty obvious.

I could not read all of this thread, but what I did nots ee mentioned is that chart is intended for "a perfect world". No two tire manufacturers make the same height, width, shape, sidewall, tread width, nothing, so what may work with one wheel/tire combo, may not work with another. The tire engineers work within a specific set fo parameters to achieve "industry standards" but everyone is different.

Now compare the profile of the same tire, say the BFG KO2 A/T 265/70/17.

C load will have a slightly different profile that an E.

Now that same C will have a different profile at say 14psi while offroad, than it will at 34psi on the road. Same with the E. It wont be the same as the C at either psi.

Now take a P rated A/T 265/70/17. Again, it will be different due to its type of manufacturing and ratings.

Just remember there is nothing set in stone about a tires size. Only guidelines. My advice on this too is that when you are selecting tires, go to the manufacturers website for actual tire sizes (example - KO2's notoriously run shorter than other tires in the same categories) to know closer to what you are actually getting when mounted and on the vehicle.

You're not going to clear a 285 without rubbing which will require cutting. One cut for clearance, it'll be pure street use only, no off road use otherwise you'll rub everywhere.

So, I've read through a bunch of this thread and it seems like the general consensus is that it varies 4R to 4R. Hoping someone has a similar setup as me and could provide insight.

Firstly, I do plan to lift the front end a bit more in the near future BUT I am currently sitting at 1.75 inches up front with stock UCAs. Will be putting 2.5in Dobinson coils with UCAs soon. Wheels are Method 316s 17x8.5 with 0 offset on KO2 265s. With sales going on for labor day, I was going to pick up some Cooper AT3 XLT 285s. The 265s have a comfortable amount of room and it seems like all I'll need to do is remove the front mudflaps and do a little bumper trimming and I should be fine.

Anyone have anything similar? Thoughts?

I’m sitting on just over 2” of front lift and run a -10 offset wheel. I do not rub at all with 285’s. I also have my caster at close to 5 degrees with Ironman UCA’s.
