Going CRAZY here - WHERE is the turn signal flasher?

I've searched google and this forum, still can't figure it out.

I have half my dashboard disassembled and still can't find the turn signal flasher!

Can someone post a photo of the stock signal flasher in the stock location? I put LED turn signals on and need to put in the after market flasher but I can't do that until I figure out where the stock one is!

People say "behind the kick panel" or "behind the fuse box", well, the kick panel is off, as is the lower dash - still don't see it.

Any help would be appreciated.

Jesus, what a difficult location!

For those who need to know, I'll be posting photos but the bottom line is that it's on the back of the fuse box.

It is therefore neccessary to remove:

1. The step panel on the door sill

2. The left side kick panel.

3. The gas filler door release and hood release levers

4. The lower dash panel

5. Two 10mm bolts holding the fuse box on.

Then, pull the fuse box towards you and tilt it down. The flasher unit is on the top. It pulls right out.

I'll try to get some photos to post so others don't have to experience the same level of annoyance!

This photo was taken at the point of maximum frustration. Notice the mirror, flashlight, channel-locks - all there in an effort to find the damn flasher!

The fuse block is held on by 2 10mm bolts. Getting the bottom one off is easy (once the lower dash is removed, that is) but getting to the one on the upper right requires you to push the upper dash panel aside. A drill with a nut-driver attachment is very useful for both disassembly and reassembly:

And just a question: Does anyone know what these go to? They hang in front of the fuses in the fusebox.

Thanks for the writeup but i cant for the life of me get that fuse box removed... it keeps getting stuck on the air vent tube above it and wont come out... Any thoughts or advice? i have both of the bolts removed and the lower dash but i dont see how it would be necessary to remove the kick panel?

Thanks for any help im really starting to get aggravated at this thing.

Also did you remove the two plug ins on the front of the fuse box? or leave everything plugged in?

Nvm got it... Then i found out i have the wrong relay... and now when i hit my brakes my blinkers light up a little bit. This is after i installed all four blinkers with leds and removed the stock relay and replaced it back with the stock one any ideas as to why its acting up?

Got it... stock relay does not like led bulbs... where did you find your relay and do you know what part number i will need for it? Thanks.

I don't have the part number handy but I got it at Auto Zone. I think I got the part number by doing an online search. Cost was about $10.00.

Okay thanks. I found one @ pepboys, and it fixs the hyperflash on all four blinkers. However, when i have the leds in the rear blinkers when i hit the brakes the blinkers slightly illuminate. But if the leds are just in the front and there are halogen in the rear they are fine with no hyperflashing.

Do you have any idea what the problem could be? I think the one i got may only be a 2 led flasher and not a 4. Did you replace all 4 or just 2?

Need some advise...

here you go.

My turn signals suddenly stopped working, in the middle of a road trip. The flashers still work, all four corners, just like always, and everything else on the turn signal stalk works as well.

I think the turn signals & the hazard function share the same flasher, and I have replaced that PITA with no change in symptoms.

So, I am thinking the contacts on the stalk must have failed. Is there anything else I should loook at prior to diving into the steering column.

TrucK IS A 99 SR5 2WD with 175k miles, but overall in very good condition.

I just took off the bottom dash panel and ended up doing it by feel after looking at the diagram, think I got lucky (and thanks for that diagram, the pics didn't load for me) but egads that thing is in an awful location. It's so peaceful after a couple months of hyper flashing.

Buzzing means relay doesn't detect any blinkers. Like if you have led in front and rear blinkers. Mine was doing this until I installed the EP35 flasher.

I know this is older question, but found this question not responded to while searching for my own issues.

I'm beginning to wonder if its the signal stalk and not my relay...the position of the stalk seems to dictate if it makes the sound or not

Heh, I had to replace my flasher a couple of weeks ago because my new front bumper uses LED's, and the stock flasher was doing a fast flash.

WTF, that was a lot more complicated and PITA to change than it should have been!

I don't know about all that. I replaced mine and it only took a couple minutes. Turn on blinker to feel which one is vibrating, take it out, and replace it. Simple as that.

I think this can actually be done if you know exactly where the relay is. My replacement relay has a small knob on top of it which controls the flash rate and after putting it in, I had to reach under the dash to turn the knob slightly to re-adjust the flash rate and was able to do it with everything in place.
