I think a 265/80 would be an ideal size and 275/75 would be pretty good too, but they don't exist. If you want the look of a bigger tire 255/80 might not be the answer. That's what I've been using for a few years and while they work great they just don't look too great.

Were they not wide enough for your wheels? or just too pizza cutterish

A 255 just looks small in the wheel well until you push it way out, then it causes some fitment issues. I use the stock Trail wheels and then added spider trax spacers. After adding the spacers I had to BMC, cut the bumper, and do fender liner mods front and rear. It still rubs when I'm wheeling, it even rubs the BMC. I think the BMC I went with (SDHQ) was actually just not a very good design, but that's another story.
But with the correct offset wheels there may be a happy medium. It is hard to find wheels with various offsets that would not be really wide for a 255, and I can't afford to experiment lol.

All that said they are a great tire... it was purely aesthetics that made mine a pain in the @$$, which is why I said if you want the look of bigger tires.

285/75r17 installed
full size spare fits, cleared panhard bar by maybe a pinkys worth of space

What uca's are you running? I have the SPC uppers and you and clock them more forward to allow for the required clearence in the rear of the front fenders.

I figured it would fit if you didn't have KDSS.

Yea..thats the first major let down of KDSS for me. I have seen others (non-KDSS) fit 34s aired down in the spare well with it barely clearing the panhard. The KDSS sway bar sure does limit clearance back there!

Trying to fit a 34 Yoko MT (no air in the tire)

Question - did they rub before adding the wheel spacers?

Also can you post some pics of how they looked small in the wheel well?

I'm really considering the Nitto Ridge Grappler LT255/80R17 33.31 inch size tire for the weight savings (54.96lbs) over the Nitto RG 285/295 (64.4 lbs / 65.08lbs).

If you aren't stuck on Nitto Ridge Grapplers, go with some BFG KO2's (Load Range C) in 285 and save weight from any of the RG's you just listed. They come in at 51 lbs.

I've got ZERO rub on my body mount with trail/offroad wheels and 255/80s (wildpeaks). Ever so slight rubbing on the drivers mudflap on weird flex when making a left turn, but it's minor at best - removal would solve the issue.

I don't have spacers on yet - I put them on and was rubbing the front fender liner and mudflap decent, pulled back in the garage since it was 10PM pulled them off and they've been in a box ever since...

Also - gas mileage is great on the 255's - I average 20-21 on my commute to and from the office - running 65-75 (70 miles round trip)

The only rubbed at full bump before the spacers.

I don't have access to many pics on the computer i'm on at the moment. Check my IG bigdaddyadventures

I know a lot of people are happy with their RG.

I have 34.1” 285/75R17. On my Instagram in my “mods” highlight I show basically what it took; very minimal in my opinion, in addition to a BMC.

TRD Hulk has me convinced to go 285/75 R70s for my next upgrade. That's a badass Runner! I remember reading somewhere that taller sidwalls is better for offroading, but I don't always trust the internet, lol.

A year later and I finally took the plunge. Same Nitto but in a 285/75/17
