Good Cheap Tires for 17" Rims?

My 04 LTD is almost a year old with 25K miles and needs tires. I typically go thru a set of tires a year driving up and down the mountains on sand-covered highways so I've given up buying name brand tires over the years as no matter who makes them, they are usually gone in about 12k-18K miles.

Can anyone recommend a good cheap make that worked for you on a suv with 17" rims? Looking to keep the cost down to $300 for all 4 which could be day dreaming...

Goodyear Eagle GT2's in a 285/65R17 would look great and are pretty inexpensive. I ran them on mine for a few months at stock height and didnt rub at all. Check around for sure, but that would be my best cost effective guess, plus they will last you a long time. Good luck.

would it be worth it to buy a quality tire with a good warranty? at least they would give you some money off on your next purchase.

The best value is the Korean tires - Kumho and Hankook. Very good tires. Maybe not the best but extremely good value.

I run Kumhos on my Porsche. Porsche snobs thumb their noses at them but I love 'em. What the hell, am I going to run Daytona?

I have not seen Korean tires in the shops I've been browsing. I'll have to look harder for these but it sounds like a good possibility. I'll also look at the GY eagle G2s. Thanks for the insights.
