Looks nice and miles are good. $18K seems very reasonable but I'd try and squeeze him down some more if paying cash. You might still want to change the timing belt and water pump for piece of mind. I think its every 72 months OR 90K miles. The 72 months is definately up..
 
I think it's overpriced for a 2004 even with the low mileage. Just my opinion but I wouldn't pay more than 15k for it. I think you can get a 2006 limited V8 with similar miles for 18k - 20k.

I recently bought a 2004 limited V6 with 119k miles for $9800. I understand the one you are looking at is a V8 and there's a lot of less miles but I don't think it makes it 8k more.

Just my 2cents.

BTW, I recently looked at a 2007 limited V6, 80k miles that was priced at 16k. Never been in an accident and the body looked almost perfect. I looked at it almost a month ago. I think the owner still hasn't sold it.
 
I think $18k seems a little steep too. What are comparable 4runners going for up there? Does it have maintenance records?
 
If it has good looking body and not involved in an accident $17,500 is probably the best you will get for a 2004 V8 **Limited**... Gotta remember, 4runners are pretty well built vehicles if taken care of! Check out KBB.com or something, it usually gives you a good idea of where it should be around based on its condition.
 
I think its too much. I wouldn't pay that much for an 04. I just paid 9,000 for an 04 with V8 with 147K. I was worried about the mileage but everyone on here said not to worry as long as the history was good which it was. I did pay another 1,091.00 afterwards for the following: timing belt, water pump, serp belt, gaskets/seals, thermostat, PCV, sway bar lins and bushings, oil change, and spark plugs. I think your better off getting a lower priced one and then figuring on spending some money to make sure everything is in order. Then you know your good to go for a while. I just saw a couple of nice 03's on craigslist with 100K miles for about 9,000 to 10,000.
 
Warning: my 4R isn't 4WD but I wanted to donate my .02 cents to this thread.


I bought my '04 4R V8 with 78k miles for $13k (original sale price was around 16k but I haggled + traded in my totaled 4R). Good luck with your sale, but I must agree with everybody else here...18k is just too much for a car like that even though it's 4WD and has a bunch of options
 
i have been watching prices for a couple of months now, and here in the NW V8s are not available that often and the ones that are come with high mileage and a hefty tag. with rising fuel prices i hope to see that go down but i think 50K on a v8 runner AWD limited if i can snag it for 17k i will have a great vehicle for the next 200K!

so paid half as much for a vehicle with 3X as many miles? plus another grand in maintenance? so i think my deal for 17K would be comparable then?
 
My 2003 Limited was $23,900 four years ago with 32,000 miles. I have never had to make a repair and really am glad to have the V8. If $18k is a little high it may still be worth it to pay a premium and have all of the features with low miles. That is what was most important to me. Good luck and you can't go wrong with a 4Runner.
 
This is a one owner vehicle, garage kept in great/excellent condition. KBB values Excellent condition at $20,856, Great condition at 20,400, good 20K and fair 18,600. service records are available and service was done at Toyota dealer. there is also new tires as well!
 
It doesn't matter if you think the vehicle is worth it or not....HAGGLE....

Car sales are still down. And February is one of the worse sales months.

I'd low-ball them and see if they make a counter offer. It can't hurt. But I suspect you can get this for 3-4k less then what they are asking for.

yeah, i am planning on offering 17K and he is asking 19400, it is a private seller as well.

We are talking the exact truck, same year, same color, both have new tires, moon roof, unused towing, previous one owner with complete Toyota service records showing oil changes every 5K. The only difference is leather seats, premium stereo, and 96K less miles which are a lot of miles. I opted to spend a grand more in service because I want to start fresh knowing everything is in order. Thats just me being me.... so for 10,000, I am happy with my purchase and it runs nice and tight. That being said.... Would I prefer to pay 17K for yours or 10K for mine? Personally, I would rather pay 10K and save the extra 7K. However, I am not saying that 17K is a bad deal. You have already determined that by looking at NADA and KBB. It looks to be a nice truck with extremely low miles and if you say there are none around your area and this will make you HAPPY then go for it! I would stick to my guns at 17K for the same reasons as stated by Mike in NH. Make sure u check the actuator (black box next to transfer case) for leaks, stuck calipers, cracked manifold, and any suspension noises (sway bar bushings were needed in mine). Make sure you ask him what it needs and what problems that he had to have fixed. Bring it to a mechanic and have him go through it and put it on a lift if possible. Good luck, let us know how u made out/

If you aren't in a hurry (like I had to be when I got mine), then just offer something a little lower than what you'd ultimately pay and see what the seller says.

As Michael Porter ("famous Economist") will tell you, the Power of Buyer is extremely high in this type of transaction. There are tons of substitutes, and sellers know this. Cash seems to speak very succinctly.
