Well that depends - how do you feel about meticulously scrubbing your filthy blackened white letters every week or so to keep it looking that way?
I like the look of white letters out, but NO WAY will I ever put that kind of energy into keeping 'em clean. If you don't clean them regularly they will be black walls soon enough. I put the white letters inside and spare myself the transition phase...

This is actually the best of both worlds. White and black. Same tires. Same day!
Most folks here will tell you black. Do whatever makes you happy and ignore the fashion police.

White lettering to the outside works well if you have something like an FJ40 and are trying to preserve that classic look. Otherwise, it tends not to look that good IMO. Blacks out tends to be much more versatile in terms of aesthetics.
That being said, I saw one of the newer Beige FJ's on the trail the other day with a set of BFG MT's with the whites out and it looked killer.

If you're really having a tough time deciding, let Goodyear decide for you—the LT265/70R17 in load range E is not available with white outlined letters.

If you are over 45 years old then put white letters out. (It is the secret sign that we old guys use to identify eachother's trucks)
I just swapped my BFGs to white letters out last weeks, it nearly killed the two kids at the tire shop to do it.
But me and my friends are at peace with ourselves now.
It is kinda like putting the retro FJ40 grill on the FJ Cruiser.

Ha, I noticed that my dad put white out on his Cooper Discoverers he got for his FJ. They look pretty good, but I prefer black out myself. It's a personal preference. I worked at a carwash during undergrad and would prefer it if I never had to scrub another white wall ever again.

Scrubbing white letters is part of the ritual and there are 2 ways I prefer:
1. Comet and a scrub brush or,
2. SOS pads
And when finished you sit back and admire your work.
As I was once told, you spent good money on your tires, the white letters said you are proud on them.

A word of caution from an older guy that has had his share of ROWL.
SOS pads do work great, but be careful!
The steel wool strands sometime pull off onto the tire. If you then dry the tire with a microfiber towel it will stick to it like velcro (which really doesn't matter) unless you then attempt to dry your wheels. Or your paint. It will scratch the hell out of them. Ask how I found that out.:doh:

I say white out, I have always liked that look, and I've seen some guys on here with lifts,wheels, tires etc. and a few have that whites out for some reason those pictures coincidentally are the ones I end up saving for my "possibilities" folder.
