Got a beeping noise when I reversed

I was backing out of a gas station pump last week, slight downgrade in the pavement. I thought I had the truck stopped "maybe going 1/10th MPH" when I went to put it in drive. All of the sudden the truck slammed on the brakes by itself and I got a beeping noise. I put the truck in neutral, it stopped beeping, put it in drive, and drove away.

Did I trigger some kind of roll assist gadget? Or was it telling me I was putting too much strain on the transmission by not being at a complete and total stop? It's never happened before. No warning lights or anything, just a beeping noise.

Yes, it's called HAC, Hill assist control or something like that... What it does is prevent it from rolling backwards when in D. The brakes kick in and the beeper goes to let you know it's working. It's an OK, gee-whiz feature for us. If you had an FJC with a stick it would be awesome!
