Well, I pulled the trigger on a 2005 Sport V8 4Runner! This is the first time I bought a vehicle from out of state. I live in Michigan and I rented a car, drove to Georgia and drove my 4Runner home. It was 950+ miles and I am happy to say that I got 21-22 MPG!!! Not bad for a V8 with 186K on it! It will need tires and I will need to fix the exhaust manifold. But other than that everything worked as it should.

I plan on putting Tacoma TRD front strut assemblies on it with a 1" plate for the front. As for the rear, I will use FJ springs, new shocks, and a spacer to level it out and give it a little lift! What do you all suggest for tires? I think I am going to stay with 265/65Rx17 or should I go with a 265/70R /17?

Save some money for a timing belt replacement. They are due every 90K, assuming yours was done then you are due now.

It was done at 110K not due for another 90-100K. It NEEDS tires! I have money. So that is not an issue!! Need opinion on tires for now, please!

I have BFG KO2 bc I like the look. There are a lot of good options like falken wildpeaks, general grabbers, nitto terra grappler just to name a few.

Tires, to me, are not only a aesthetic preference, but totally depend on the driving you do and the terrain you want to conquer. I've always been a fan of A/T's, as they get me where I need to go, are modestly priced compared to M/T's, and are significantly more capable than your everyday all weather road tire. The Falken Wildpeak AT3W is good and cheap, the Duratracs are popular but more expensive, and then there is a range of quite a few more meats on the market that would likely all fit the bill. Just my 0.2 cents!

How much mileage do people expect to get out of the V8 4runners? I've seen lots of 225k mile copies for sale around me, and a few at 250k, but consensus around here seems to be they will go to 300k. Is that what other people see?

You can take it easily to 400 if you take care of it and keep up maintenance. 2 tundras with these engines have over 1mil miles each. They're stout engines

No really Cuz our cars are Rust buckets!! I had a 2010 F150 bought it new I washed it once a week in the winter to wash the underside of salt. By 2016 I had rust holes in both rockers...

And all the replies! I am mainly interested in a 70 series vs a 65series. I heard that the 70 series is about 1 inch taller than a 65 series... I see that most go with a 70 series.

Congrats on the purchase. You will love the v8. Check eBay on the tires. I got a set of Michelin 20" take offs for 600.00. Would have cost me 1100.00 elsewhere.

Keep the timing belt in your mind its actually due in about 14k miles. It was done at 110k and you have 186k. You do not want that to fail.

I recently put a 2019 Taco TRD suspension and 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3 on my 2005 Sport V6 and I’m very happy with the setup. We get some snow here in the winter, and I do some mild overland/off-roading/camping trips throughout the summer, so I really wanted something with good snow rating and shoulder protection which the Wildpeaks have. I also like that they are quiet so far.

I'll echo what others has said... BFG K02's all the way. I went with 275/70/17r not only for the size but also the "E" load rated tire vs the "C". Personally, I prefer better puncture protection over ride comfort.

Wait - it has 186k on it, timing belt was done at 110k, should be done every 90k, and you say it's not due for another 90-100k? My math says do it within the next 30k tops, but hey, I'm no expert.

Regardless, congrats on the new ride! Also (just me) I would daily-drive it for a bit to make sure nothing surfaces BEFORE you begin modding and tire upgrading. Enjoy, bro!
